HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth field hockey team hung around with No. 6 Harvard, but the Crimson were too much down the stretch in a 6-0 win Saturday afternoon at Chase Field.
Â
Playing through snow, hail and freezing rain, the two teams battled not only each other, but also the weather and slick field conditions. In the end, though, it was the Crimson who would take the win and a share of the 2018 Ivy League title thanks to their 12th-straight win and a 6-0 conference mark.
Â
Following the game, the five members of the Class of 2019 were honored in Senior Day ceremonies with the teammates, family and the coaching staff.
Jessica Valvano,
Hailey Valerio,
Gemma Bautista,
Amrit Ahluwalia and
Evie Bird all were recognized for their contributions to the team over the last four years.
Â
On Saturday, the Crimson (15-1, 6-0 Ivy) were aided by a pair of goals from both Casey Allen and Maddie Earl with Olivia Allin and Bente van Vlijmen each scoring once. Leading 2-0 after the first half, Harvard turned up the offensive pressure in the final stanza, scoring four more times.
Â
In her final home game for the Big Green (6-9, 2-4 Ivy), Valerio turned aside 15 shots, one off her career high.
Sara Falkson and
Maddie Donahue were each credited with a defensive save as well. In goal for Harvard, Ellie Shahbo made one save in the first half.

Dartmouth is back in action Sunday in Durham, taking on New Hampshire in a game that will determine Granite State bragging rights for the next year. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
