MADISON, Wis. – The Dartmouth women finished 30th Saturday morning at the 2018 NCAA Cross Country National Championship.
Â
Run on the University of Wisconsin's Thomas Zimmerman 6K Course, the Big Green were led by junior
Georgia Fear, who finished the race in 21:19.79 to earn 103 points.
Â
Overall, Dartmouth finished the afternoon with 751 team points.
Â
Colorado won the national title with 65 points, besting second-place New Mexico (103) by nearly 40 in a dominant performance by the Buffaloes that also included an individual national title for Dani Jones in 19:42.76, moving up six spots in the final 2K to win.
Â
The pack mentality was still there on this day for the Green and White. Unfortunately, though, the group running that had been so successful all season for Dartmouth was just back of their normal pace and placement.
Â
Lauren Sapone (180, 21:40.77) led the wave with a close grouping that followed Fear in the scoring. Just back of Sapone in scoring were
Olivia Lantz (200, 21:57.13),
Lillian Anderson (201, 21:58.39) and
Glennis Murphy (208, 22:01.97).
Â
Ella Ketchum (225, 22:16.38) and
Grace Thompson (253, 24:17.79) finished outside the scoring for Dartmouth.
Â
The Big Green were ranked in the top-30 nationally nearly all season, finished as the runners up at both Heps and the NCAA Northeast Regional to punch their ticket to Wisconsin. Three of Saturday's scoring harriers will be back next season with the exception of Lantz and Anderson, while head coach
Courtney Jaworski continues to recruit and develop high-end talent, making the future even brighter in Hanover for the 2019 season.
