ORONO, Maine – Dartmouth women's hockey concluded its weekend on the road with a 4-1 loss to Maine at the Harold Alfond Sports Arena on Sunday. The Big Green are now 2-7-1, while the Black Bears improved to 9-6-1.
Senior
Alyssa Baker was credited with Dartmouth's goal, while freshman
Lotti Odnoga and junior
Christina Rombaut assisted. Sophomore
Kayla Wormsbecher played all 60 minutes, ending the game with 23 saves.
Getting the nod in net for the second time this season, Wormsbecher looked good to start the first, making five saves in the first two minutes of play. The Black Bears continued to pester the Big Green netminder, scoring the first goal of the game a minute later. Thirteen saves by Wormsbecher and some nice blocked shots helped keep Maine out of the net for the remainder for the period.
The Green looked stronger when they returned to the ice for the second, taking more chances than in the first period. The second was riddled with a combined five penalties, giving both teams plenty of chances to work on their power play. At 17:55, just eight seconds after a Black Bear penalty, Baker netted her first goal of the season following passes from Bracken and Odnoga. The score was tied for just two minutes, at which point Maine did the same exact thing and scored seven seconds after going on the power play to jump ahead by one again (2-1).
A pair of Black Bear tallies scored seven minutes apart in the third period gave the home team a 4-1 advantage before the midway point. Dartmouth had a few more promising shots before the final whistle, but none made it past Jackson.
The Big Green will have another busy five-day stretch, starting this coming weekend when Union and RPI come to town. Three days later, Dartmouth will take on New Hampshire at Thompson.
