THIS WEEKEND
•    The Dartmouth men's hockey team continues its homestand with a pair of ECAC Hockey games this weekend against Cornell and Colgate.
•    Both games will be carried on ESPN+ with Saturday's contest against the Raiders also being shown on NESNplus.
LAST TIME OUT
•    The Big Green dropped a 5-3 game to visiting Vermont on Saturday night in the first game back from the break for exams.
•    Freshman
Drew O'Connor scored twice, while classmate
Jeff Losurdo tallied the third Dartmouth goal of the night.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
•    Cornell comes to Hanover with a 5-4-0 record overall and 3-1-0 in league games. The six points in league games have Friday's two colorful opponents tied for third in the standings
•    Ranked No. 16 in the most recent national polls, the Big Red actually started the season No. 7, so they have fallen a bit.
•    The team's fourth loss in 2017-18 didn't come until the final game of the regular season on Feb. 24 at Union.
•    Cornell is coming off a 4-1 loss to Harvard in the Frozen Apple played at Madison Square Garden last weekend.
•    Colgate is currently ninth in the conference standings with three points thanks to a 1-2-1 record. The lone league win was a surprising 2-1 victory over visiting Princeton two weeks ago. However, the team was beaten 5-0 by Quinnipiac the following night in its most recent outing.
•    The Raiders are the lowest scoring team in ECAC Hockey so far this season, averaging just over a goal a game (1.09), while the 3.09 goals allowed per game is eighth.
•    Colgate is doing everything in its power not to self-inflict any of its issues as it is whistled for the fewest penalties per game (3.55) of any of the 12 league teams. Cornell, on the other hand, is taking 5.44 penalties per game (2nd) for an average of 12.11 minutes per game (6th), by far the most of any of the Ivies.
308!
•    Fresh off joining the ranks of the 400-win club for head coaches at the DI level, Gaudet tied another career milestone and the legendary Eddie Jeremiah for the most wins at Dartmouth as the Yale game was the 308th victory since stepping behind the bench of his alma mater in 1997.
•    Jeremiah is the longest-serving coach in program history with 26 seasons behind the Big Green bench between 1937-67 with several seasons missing due to military service and illness.
•    With one more win, Gaudet will take sole possession of the top spot amongst the 21 individuals to hold the title of head coach at Dartmouth.
•    At the end of his career, Gaudet's total will be the standard for the considerable future as third-place George Crowe is current 199 wins back of his former goalie Gaudet and he coached the Green during the height of their success in the 1970s and early 80s.
ROOKIE WEEKEND
•    O'Connor was one of eight freshmen to score two goals last weekend.
•    The Dartmouth rookie was, however, the only player to do it in just one game played.
•    Colin Bilek from Army West Point and Robert Morris' Justin Assamo also scored a pair of goals on Saturday night, but were held scoreless the night before in the openers of their respective series.
•    O'Connor now has four goals in six games played and is tied for the team lead along with
Quin Foreman.
•    Dartmouth's Class of 2022 is making a strong first impression thanks in large part to Losurdo and O'Connor as the collective 1.00 goals per game from the rookies is the sixth-best mark in the country and second in ECAC Hockey. The 2.33 points per game as a class is 10th nationally.
THE PROTEIN LINE
•    O'Connor, Losurdo and senior
Carl Hesler were put together following the loss to Princeton in the 5-1 bounce-back win against No. 15 Quinnipiac.
•    In those four games, the trio has combined for seven goals and 12 points, the most productive scoring line for the Green and White in that stretch as the Timber Line has only accounted for 10 points.
•    If the line of
Shane Sellar,
Will Graber and
Quin Foreman gets all the attention, it's been the second line that has produced the important scoring punch in the last two weeks.
•    Hesler had the game winner at Yale, while Losurdo and O'Connor accounted for all the goals against the Catamounts.
PER GAME AVERAGES
•    Since the Ivies play fewer games than the six other ECAC Hockey teams, per game averages is the best way to gauge where players and teams rank. The following highlight some of Dartmouth's areas of strength.
        o    Points per game:
Will Graber (7th, 1.33) and
Drew O'Connor (12th, 1.17)
        o    Goals per game:
Quin Foreman (5th, 0.67), O'Connor (5th, 0.67) and Graber (11th, 0.50)
        o    Game-winning goals per game: Foreman (1st, 0.33)
o    Shots on goal per game:
Carl Hesler (9th, 3.50), Foreman (12th, 3.17)
SLOW STARTERS…
•    O'Connor's first of the night against Vermont was just the third first-period goal of the season for the Big Green.
•
Shane Sellar's first of the season in the opener against Harvard at 9:11 of the first and then Hesler's winner at Yale just 2:34 into the game are the only two other scores in the first period this season.
•    The only other team with fewer goals in the first period this season? Colgate with just one in 11 games played this season, an 0.09 figure that is 60th in the country coming into the weekend.
•    Dartmouth makes considerable improvements in scoring in the ensuing periods as it is third in the league with 1.33 goals per game in the middle frame and second in the third with 1.50.
•    That 1.50 goals per game average in the third period actually ranks fourth nationally.
SOME RANKINGS AND WHATNOT
•    The Big Green have proven they can be an explosive offensive team this season as they are 11th in the nation at 3.50 goals per game.
•    The 5.67 assists per contests is 16th in the nation as is the 9.17 points per game.
•    Dartmouth is 3-3 this season, but is also averaging 33.0 shots on goal per game, the ninth-best mark in Division I.
•    Despite not scoring on their last 16 power-play opportunities, the Big Green are 19th in the country with the man-advantage at 20.0% (5-25).
•    Despite killing off the opposition's last nine power plays dating back to Quinnipiac (Nov. 3), Dartmouth still remains the last-place penalty killers in the nation at 61.9%. Seven of the eight PPGs allowed this season came in the first two games of the season and none in the last three.
SHORTIES
•    After allowing just three shorthanded goals all of last season, the Green allowed two against Vermont last week with the first standing up as the winner.
•    Dartmouth is now one of 22 teams this season to allow more than one shorthanded goal against. Omaha leads the nation with five shorthanded markers scored against in 12 games.
•    The last time two shorthanded goals were scored in a single game in which Dartmouth has played was against UMass in the Ledyard Classic Championship on Dec. 31, 2012. Brett Patterson scored shorthanded for the Big Green at 9:50 of the first period, while Eddie Olczyk's first of the season was a shorthanded marker at… interestingly enough 9:50 of the second period.
ALTERNATING
•    Dartmouth has alternated wins and losses for the first six games of the season.
•    The last time the Green and White did not put together a streak of two or more games in any result was in 2016-17 when they started 2-2-2 in their first six. The sixth game of that season was also a loss to Vermont (5-2) and came before a 3-0 loss at Robert Morris for the first streak of any kind that season.
•    The last time Dartmouth went six or more games without consecutive wins, losses or ties to start a season was in 1982-83 when it took until the 11th game of the season (Jan. 4) before the team lost its second straight game. Prior to that, the Big Green went 5-4-1.
