ITHACA, N.Y. –Eduvie Ikoba has made his presence felt since returning from injury for the Big Green. The senior has appeared in six matches this season and has picked up three goals and an assist in Dartmouth's last two games, including an assist on
Braden Salvati's score in the 45th minute, and the game-winning goal in overtime to help Dartmouth earn a 2-1 victory at Cornell Saturday night.
Dartmouth (6-5-5, 3-1-2 Ivy) outshot Cornell (10-6-0, 3-3-0 Ivy) 23-11, while each side was even with six shots on goal. The Big Green are 6-1-3 in their last 10 matches and are over .500 for the first time this season.
After four quick shots from the Dartmouth offense to begin the game, Cornell moved the ball to the other side of the field and the Ivy League's highest scoring offense wasted little time taking the early lead. Jonah Kagen gave the Big Red a 1-0 advantage off a corner kick from Caleb McAuslan in the 12th minute. Dartmouth outshot Cornell 6-2 for the remainder of the half but could not connect before the break.
It took less than two minutes into the second half for Dartmouth to even the score. In the 47th minute, Ikoba's straight away shot was denied with a diving save and Salvati was in the right spot to send the rebound to the back of the net and tie the match at one goal apiece.
Goalkeeper
Christopher Palacios was critical in the second half. The sophomore came away with three of his five saves as the minutes ticked away in regulation to send the match to overtime.
Dartmouth earned a corner in the 96th minute and made the most of their opportunity.
Noah Paravicini sent the pass to far side of the goal where the 6'4 Ikoba was waiting to head home the game winner.
The Big Green conclude their season on Saturday, Nov. 10 when they host Brown on Burnham Field at 5 p.m.
