BOSTON – The Dartmouth women's track & field team opened the 2018-19 indoor season Saturday at the BU Season Opener.
The non-scoring meet was held inside the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.
The first day of the season was highlighted by two strong performances by
Lily Lockhart in both the shot put and weight throw. She took home fifth place in the weight thanks to a 15.60m toss on her third attempt of the day, while also taking fifth in the shot thanks to a 13.58m throw on her second try.
The Big Green also got a win from
Abigail Burke in the high jump as she cleared 1.73m and won the event title in a jump off.
Camille Landon (1.70m) and
Zoe Dainton (1.70m) were third and fourth, respectively.
Olivia Goodwin was second in the pole vault as she was credited with clearing 3.80m on her third and final try at the height. Success continued on the infield with a third-place finish from
Folasade Akinfe in the long jump as she leaped 5.54m.
On the track,
Kayla Gilding's 56.64 was good enough for a solid win in the 400m, besting the second-place runner by more than a second.
Nicole Deblasio was third in the 200 with a 25.01 to her credit with Akinfe taking ninth in the race in 25.80. Deblasio was sixth in the final of the 60m with a 7.86.
The Big Green are home next Saturday to host Maine and Vermont in a tri-meet at Leverone Field House. It is the last meet before winter break where the team will return to host the 50th Annual Dartmouth Relays on Jan. 11-13.
