HAPPY (ALMOST) NEW YEAR
Having played just two games in December, the Dartmouth women's hockey team is back after a three-week break to officially close the first half of the season. The Big Green will say goodbye to 2018 in Storrs when it takes on Connecticut at 2 p.m. on Dec. 30.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth was on a three-game homestand when it was last in action, going 1-2-0 against Union (4-2), Rensselaer (1-2) and New Hampshire (0-2).
Against UNH, head coach
Laura Schuler said "I am so proud of our efforts. We played really well and had a ton of scoring chances. We just couldn't find the back of the net. But, I think that this is the best I've seen our team play in terms of our systems and if we continue to play this way, it's only going to be a matter of time before the puck starts going in the net."
After a scoreless first period that saw the Green have a 13-9 shot advantage, the Wildcats broke the tie early in the second, and added another in the seventh minute to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage.
Dartmouth led in shorts throughout most of the third and had a few quality attempts, but the goalie stood her ground and sent each one away.
Chloe Puddifant had a nice breakaway chance halfway through the period, while
Alyssa Baker tried her luck with a backhanded shot, but both missed the mark. The home team worked hard to keep UNH out of the net for the remainder of the period.
The Big Green had a slight advantage in shots (31-29).
Christine Honor had 27 saves and a .931 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
UConn enters Sunday's contest with an overall record of 8-9-1 and has not hit the ice since a pair of Hockey East games against Providence on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. The Huskies split against the Friars, falling by a score of 4-1 in the first game before taking the second, 2-1. Providence was No. 8 in the country at the time.
Four Huskies have made it to double-digit points in the first half of their year. Catherine Crawley is tied for first in goals (6) and leads in points (15), while Natalie Snodgrass has a team-leading 10 helpers and is tied for second in points (13). Morgan Wabick, who is also second in points, is first with five power play tallies.
LAST TIME AGAINST UCONN
On New Year's Eve 2017, Dartmouth and Connecticut met at Thompson Arena for the first time since 2011. The Big Green wrapped up a nine-game homestand with a 5-2 loss to UConn following goals by
Tess Bracken and
Linda Essery. Former captains
Hailey Noronha and
Morgan Turner (both part of the Class of 2018), as well as Baker and
Katerina Dajia all had an assist.
LEADING THE WAY
Bracken and McClanahan are now tied for first on the team with seven points each. Bracken has netted four goals and added on three assists, while McClanahan has three goals and four helpers.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Honor has played in and started 11 of the team's 13 games and has made 290 saves and allowed 32 goals.
Kayla Wormsbecher has started the other two and appeared in three contests, stopping 62 shots while allowing eight goals.

NEXT UP FOR DARTMOUTH
After a quiet December, the remainder of the season will be busy for the Big Green, who will play 17 games over the next month and a half. After returning from Storrs, Dartmouth will head into a five-game homestand, starting with Quinnipiac and Princeton on Jan. 4-5.
