HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth men's lacrosse alum Ari Sussman '10 will represent Israel at the 2018 World Lacrosse Championship in Netanya, Israel.
From July 12-21, 46 countries will come together to compete for world supremacy. These mark the largest World Championships ever and the first time the tournament will be held outside of the United States, Canada, England or Australia.
These will be Sussman's second World Championship, after playing a major role in Israel's seventh-place finish four years ago in Denver in the nation's first appearance in the competition. The attackman notched 27 goals, claiming the title of the tournament's leading scorer, and dished 15 assists to boot. Sussman also featured in Israel's gold-medal run at the 2017 European Box Championships in Finland, the country's first-ever team gold in any sport.
Sussman is passionate about Israel and his Jewish heritage.
In an interview with Israel Lacrosse in November, he explained the importance wearing the Blue and White holds for him.
"Judaism and lacrosse have been consistent parts of my life since childhood," Sussman said. "I am incredibly thankful to be part of the Israel Lacrosse family and honored to represent the Jewish state. Playing for Israel, signing the Hatikvah, wearing the Star of David, is all emotional because it's more than just a sports team or a national team. Israel is the perseverance of Jews, and wearing the Israeli uniform brings a responsibility to honor this Jewish commonality and celebrate our resolve."
In his four years at Dartmouth, Sussman was a team captain, a three-time All-Ivy selection and was the Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2007. In 2016, he was inducted into Dartmouth's Wearers of the Green for his accomplishments in lacrosse. After graduation, Sussman spent 2010-2014 in Major League Lacrosse, including stints with the Rochester Rattlers, Boston Cannons and Long Island Lizards.
