HANOVER, N.H. — Junior
Kristen Soh and freshman
Kaitlyn Lees each carded a 1-over 73 in the first round of the Dartmouth Invitational at Hanover Country Club on Saturday, helping the host Big Green finish the day in a tie for third at 10-over par. Albany leads the 15-team field with a 289 (+1), seven strokes ahead of Harvard and nine ahead of Dartmouth and Siena.
Lees was in terrific shape through 15 holes with three birdies to her credit to sit at 2-under par before settling for her 73 (+1). Soh also had three birdies on the day to draw even with her teammate after 18 holes.
The two other scorers for the Big Green team were co-captain
Catharine Roddy and sophomore
Julianne Strauch, both at 4-over par to tie for 25th. Sophomore
Moon Cheong rounded out the squad with a 7-over 79, tying for 42nd overall.
Freshman
Kristen Chen, playing as an individual, had the most birdies for Dartmouth, dropping five into the cup as she tied for 12th with a 2-over 74. Junior
Bethany Burns also competed as an individual for the Big Green. The seven Dartmouth players combined for 18 birdies throughout the day.
Siena's Sara Riso topped the 86-player field with a 6-under 66, leaving her two strokes ahead of Albany's Megan Henry.
The second and final round will begin on Sunday morning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
