THIS WEEKEND
After playing its first two matches on the road, the Dartmouth women's rugby team will play its home opener this Saturday, hosting Army West Point at Brophy Field. The game can be watched live on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth came on strong late in the second half but were not able to bridge the gap, falling to Harvard, 50-34, at Mignone Field two weeks ago.
For the second game in a row,
Ariana Ramsey led the team with her three tries for a total of 15 points.
Idia Ihensekhien was close behind with two.
Following 11 minutes of scoreless back-and-forth action, a big run by
Becca Jane Rosko led to a good possession in Dartmouth's scoring end and a try from Ihensekhien to give the Big Green a 5-0 lead. Harvard answered just a few minutes later and a missed conversion made it a tied game. From there, the Crimson went on to score three tries and added a trio of conversions to take a 26-5 edge into the half.
Harvard started the second with another try, but Dartmouth found some momentum after that, allowing Ramsey to score. A good kick by
Kristin Bitter made it a 31-12 match, but a yellow card slowed the Big Green's push, making way for two more Crimson tries (50-12).
With under eight minutes to go, Dartmouth took complete control. Ramsey and Ihensekhien got on the board again, while
Ale Ada scored her first try of the game. Following a conversion by
Lillian Johnson, the Big Green were starting to close the gap (50-29). For the last play of the game, Ihensekhien and Ramsey connected for a third Ramsey try, but Dartmouth ran out of time to truly make a comeback (50-34).
SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS
Army is the only NIRA tier I team that is currently undefeated, rolling through Harvard, Quinnipiac and Notre Dame College. The Black Knights have not been scored against since their 34-10 defeat of Harvard during opening weekend, blanking both the Bobcats (49-0) and NDC (77-0).
LAST TIME AGAINST ARMY
On Oct. 13, 2018, top-ranked Dartmouth concluded the regular season with its closest match of the fall, defeating No. 4 Army by a score of 26-20.
Dartmouth took control from the start, scoring three straight tries to open the half. Ada had her first double-digit performance, scoring the Green's first and third tries, while
Karina Martinez had her third of the season. With two good conversions by
Camille Johnson, Dartmouth had a 19-0 edge with 14 minutes remaining in the half.
A few minutes later, Army scored its first of the game to slightly cut into the Big Green's lead (19-5).
The visitors made it a 26-5 game seven minutes into the second half when
Alex Conway had her second try in as many games, followed by Johnson's third good kick of the match. The Black Knights responded with three tries over the course of 13 minutes to pull within six points but ran out of time before they could score another.
NEXT UP DARTMOUTH
With just three games under their belts, the Big Green will close out the regular season next Saturday by hosting Quinnipiac.
