We had a good start to our home season last week, but we’re back on the road this weekend against two good teams and we need to keep that momentum going. I liked the way we played in our end at home and we’ve already shown that we can score goals this season. I’m hoping we can put together a complete game and play with the consistency I know we can. This weekend gives us another opportunity for us to make that happen.Koenig Family Head Coach Bob Gaudet ’81
THIS WEEKEND
• The Dartmouth men’s hockey team hits the road this weekend for a pair of ECAC Hockey and Ivy League games at Yale and Brown.
LAST TIME OUT
• The Big Green are coming off a 1-0-1 weekend at home with a 2-2 tie against No. 15 Quinnipiac and a 3-1 win against Princeton.
• The draw with the Bobcats is the only tie in any ECAC Hockey game so far this season.
THE OPPOSITION
• Dartmouth heads to New Haven to take on Yale Friday night.
• After a win in the opener against Brown at home, the Bulldogs have dropped three straight games, including a sweep on the road last weekend at Colgate (2-1) and Cornell (6-2).
• The 1.75 goals per game are 10th in the league. Curtis Hall, a Bruins draft pick, leads the team in goals (3) and points (3-0-3) this season for a team struggling to find consistent scoring.
• Brown is tied for second in the league with four points thanks to a 2-2-0 overall and ECAC Hockey record.
• Sophomore forward Justin Jallen leads the team in scoring with six points thanks to five goals.
• Since the Bears have played nothing but league games, his five goals have all come in ECAC play, the most of any conference player.
vs. YALE
• Dartmouth had an historic run against the Elis in 2018-19, blanking them in both regular season games for the first time ever.
• The 3-0 win early on in the season was the first of a program-record six shutouts last year for Clark, who also collected his first career point in the game with an assist.
• That was the first Dartmouth shutout of Yale since Jan. 13, 1979. The goalie that night in Hanover for the Big Green? Current Koenig Family Head Coach Bob Gaudet ’81. The game also marked the first shutout of Yale in New Haven since Feb. 19, 1949 (4-0).
• The Green would blank Yale, 2-0, on Feb. 22 in Hanover with Brendan Less’ first career goal 45 seconds into the game serving as the winner.
vs. BROWN
• The Bears bested the Big Green in both games last season, sweeping the season series for the first time since 2007-08 when current Brown head coach Brendan Whittet was an assistant on the Big Green staff.
• Brown won the game in Providence, 4-2, before shutting out Dartmouth in Hanover, 2-0. It was the first time ever that the Green and White had been blanked in Hanover by Brown dating back to 1928.
• Will Graber and Quin Foreman scored the goals in road game at Meehan last year.
GRABER GETS THE GOAL
• Playing in his 100th career game, Will Graber scored the first goal of the game against Princeton.
• Graber became the first senior to score ‘the goal’ since Mike Keenan ’13 did so on Mar. 1, netting the tally 15:08 into the first period in a game that eventually ended in a 2-2 tie.
• Graber became the first Dartmouth player to score twice at home against the Tigers since… Will Graber in the 5-0 win on January 6, 2017.
• He is also the only player to score multiple goals at home against Princeton after also scoring ‘the goal.’
WORTH THE WAIT FOR 100
• Graber missed Friday’s game against Quinnipiac, making his 100th game Saturday.
• In suiting up against the Tigers, Graber became the 105th player in 113 years of Dartmouth hockey to reach the milestone.
• Daniel Warpecha has 98 career games to his credit coming into the weekend, making it likely that Saturday’s game at Brown would make him the 106th player to the century club.
• Shane Seller is the next closest with 94 career games, while Cam Strong has appeared in 92 games and counting.
DANNY WARPS
• Warpecha has a team-high three goals in four games this season, all coming in ECAC Hockey games
• As a junior, Warpecha scored just one goal, a figure he’s tripled in 25 fewer games already in 2019-20.
• As a sophomore in 2017-18, Warpecha also scored three goals in the first four games.
• His six goals as a rookie remains his career high.
POINT STREAK
• Jeff Losurdo currently leads the team in scoring with five points (1-4-5).
• His four-game point streak to start the season is the most by any Dartmouth player in the last three seasons.
• Matt Baker had a three-game streak to start last year (1-2-3).
HOME COOKIN’ TO START
• Dartmouth went 1-0-1 in its home-opening weekend.
• The last time the Green were unbeaten in their first home weekend with multiple games was 2017-18 when they defeated Brown (4-3) and Yale (3-1).
• Dartmouth also won its opener at home last year, 7-6, in overtime against Harvard and against Michigan, 3-2, in 2016-17.
• The last loss in a home opener was Halloween 2015 when Harvard came to Thompson and won 7-0.
THIS IS A JOKE, RIGHT?
• With the tie against the Bobcats on Saturday night, Dartmouth pushed its stretch of overtime games without a win to nine (0-4-5), a stretch that dates back to December of last year.
• The 5-4 loss at UNH the week before was the fourth-straight OT game ended that ended in favor of the opposition with the previous three coming in March last year.
• The 7-6 win last year against Harvard to open the season is the last time the Green and White came out on top when playing beyond the third period. Quin Foreman scored that winner.
• Since 2010, the longest run of overtime games without a win was 14, a stretch that spanned from Jan. 31, 2012 to Jan. 18, 2014 and saw Dartmouth go 0-4-8.
FIRST GAME, FIRST GOAL
• Freshman Tyler Campbell was inserted into the lineup for the first time this season against Quinnipiac. He responded by scoring the first goal of his career.
• It proved to be important as it came near the midway point of the third period and pulled the Big Green even with the Bobcats, 2-2, to help earn a league point for the home team.
• The last Big Green player to score in his first career game was Drew O’Connor last year when he netted one goal and assisted on two others.
• Cam Strong is the third player on the roster to find the back of the net in his first career game, doing so against No. 11 Michigan in a 3-2 win at home on Oct. 29, 2016.
DISCIPLINE!
• Dartmouth has been called for more penalties than the opposition in all four games this season.
• That happened only eight times in 34 total games last year.
• The Big Green were one of the most disciplined teams in the nation in ’18-19, finishing 58th out of 60 Division I teams with 7.94 penalty minutes per game.
• This year, the team is 44th, despite 7.33 PIMs, a figure that is less than last year’s average.
ALL-ROOKIE GOAL
• Campbell’s goal was assisted by classmates Mark Gallant and Tanner Palocsik.
• The last time Dartmouth had a goal with at least one assist where both were credited to freshmen was Drew O’Connor’s first career score in last season’s opener with Harrison Markell getting the helper for his first point.
• No goal in the last two seasons has featured a rookie scorer and two assists from classmates.
ESPN+
• All of Dartmouth home games will be carried this season on ESPN+ with Tyler Murray providing play-by-play throughout the home schedule in 2019-20.
• In addition to games played in Hanover, ECAC Hockey road games at each school besides Rensselaer will also be carried on the network, making ESPN+ your home for 21-of-22 conference games and 26 regular season games total.
• Postseason games will also be carried on ESPN+ in 2019-20 and will not need subscribers to pay any additional fees to watch the league’s postseason.
ON THE AIR
• Once again, Rob Kennedy will be the Voice of the Big Green on the radio.
• Kennedy begins his third season with the team and will broadcast all 29 regular season games via an audio link through DartmouthSports.com.
WHAT’S AHEAD
• Dartmouth will be off for two weeks due to the College’s exams schedule followed by a bye week for Thanksgiving.
• The next games are Dec. 6-7 at home against Colgate and No. 4 Cornell.
• That home weekend will also serve as the team’s annual CHaD Toy Drive, collecting toys for kids at the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock.
