NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior
Will Graber scored with 1:25 left in regulation to break a tie and give the Dartmouth men's hockey team a 4-3 win Friday night at Ingalls Rink against Yale.
Â
For Graber, it was his third point of the game as he dished out a pair of helpers prior to netting his second game-winning goal as many games.
Â
Down 1-0 and 2-1, and then tied 3-3 late, the Big Green (2-2-1, 2-1-1 ECAC) answered the call all night when faced with adversity and, in the end, were rewarded with their second straight win.
Â
Graber was not alone as Dartmouth's top line accounted for three goals and five assists in the win with
Drew O'Connor scoring once and dishing out two helpers and
Quin Foreman adding one of each.
Â
The Bulldogs (1-4-0, 1-4-0 ECAC) got on the board just 4:48 into the game on Justin Pearson's first of the season coming on a redirect while on the power play. Dartmouth wasted little time as O'Connor scored his first of the season 102 seconds later on a great individual effort behind the net to make it 1-1.
Â
In the second period, it was Yale that went up by one again, this time with Tyler Welsh scoring at 4:07. But, just as it had in the first period, Dartmouth responded with a
Matt Baker power-play goal 61 seconds after.
Â
Foreman put the team in green on top for the first time all night when he fired home his second of the season just under nine minutes into the final frame after O'Connor and Graber dug the puck out of a scrum in the corner. Â
Â
The home team pushed back with Dante Palecco's first of the year with just 3:48 showing on the clock to tie the game at three. That's when O'Connor carried the puck two-thirds of the ice before finding Graber on the right side where the senior placed a perfect shot over the glove of Yale goalie Corbin Kaczperski and under the bar for the winner.
Â
In the final seconds with the Bulldogs pushing for the equalizer, the top line showed they could play in all three zones as O'Connor slid to block a shot and then beat out an icing and killed off the final seconds of the clock to help the Big Green to its first road win of 2019-20.
Â
The top line was great, but Dartmouth netminder
Adrian Clark was equal in many ways, finishing the game with 27 saves, including flashing the glove on a point-blank shot on the doorstep in the second period. For Clark, it was his second win in Ingalls Rink in as many years as he notched a 3-0 shutout in the same building last season.Â
Â
Kaczperski was tested throughout, but especially in the third period where the Green and White seemed to dominate possession. Although he made 10 stops in the final frame, Kaczperski allowed the tallies to Foreman and Graber that proved to be the difference.
Â
Dartmouth now travels up I-95 Saturday to face Brown in Providence at 7 p.m.
