2019 SEASON
The Dartmouth men's lacrosse team is just a few days away from the start of the 2019 campaign. The Big Green will look to move up in the Ivy League standings.
2018 IN REVIEW
Dartmouth ended last season with an overall record of 2-11. The Green opened 2018 on a high note when they defeated Canisius, 13-12, at Scully-Fahey Field. After two road losses, Dartmouth picked up its second home win in the form of a 9-8 victory over Wagner.
The Big Green played two double overtime games, but unfortunately came out on the wrong side of both of them against UMass Lowell and No. 20 Penn. They also played a good game against Harvard, tying the score seven times before ultimately falling by a score of 10-8.
SCHEDULE
Dartmouth will play three road games to start the 2019 season, starting with Boston University on Saturday. Feb. 16. A week after that, the Big Green will head to Rhode Island to face Bryant and, the following Saturday, will hit the road for New York to take on Wagner.
After three weeks away, Dartmouth will play UMass Lowell in their home opener on March 5 and, after a break for exams, will play three spring break matches: Binghamton at home on March 6, St. John's on March 19 and Harvard in the conference opener at home on March 23.
The Green will take on Cornell and Yale on the road before hosting Hartford – its final non-conference game of the season – and Princeton (April 9, 13). Dartmouth will be on the road one last time at Penn (April 20) before closing the regular season at home against Brown (April 27).
COACHING STAFF
Brendan Callahan is back for his fifth season at the helm after being named the 10th head coach in the program's 90-year history in August of 2014. He is joined behind the bench by associate head coach and recruiting coordinator
Joe Conner, defensive coordinator
Nate Norbo and assistant coach
Knute Kraus. Conner is in his first year at Dartmouth after spending nine years on the Bucknell men's lacrosse staff, seven of those as the top assistant and the last two as the associate head coach. Norbo is starting his third season with the Big Green after arriving in Hanover in 2017. Kraus joined the team in August of 2018 after serving as the graduate assistant at Salisbury.
CAPTAIN
Austin Meacham will serve as captain during his senior season. This is the second year in a row that the team will be led by just one player.
Jack Richardson and
Ben Martin will be assistant captains.
An All-Ivy second team selection last season, Meacham played in all 13 games and made 10 starts. He scored his first collegiate marker in the game against Princeton on April 14. He was first on the team in caused turnovers (14) and second in ground balls (39) and went 15-for-42 at the X and was first in faceoff percentage (.357).
In addition to the three captains, the Big Green will have squad leaders who are given extra tasks and duties to help lead the team. Serving as squad leaders in 2019 are
George Christopher,
David Marshall,
George Prince and
Chris Bacotti. They are responsible for the day-to-day operations of team functions, organizing the group, communicating with the coaches and the team, and leading their squad of about 10 of their teammates.
SENIORS
Callahan and his staff will look to the leadership of six seniors to help guide the team this year. Meacham, Marshall,
Tucker Brown,
Will Randell,
Landon McKenzie and
Tyler Haskell will be playing their final season at Dartmouth in 2019.
CLASS OF 2022
Twelve of the 43 players on the roster will be wearing the Green and White jersey for the first time. Making up the Class of 2022 are
Henry Stites,
Daniel Hincks,
Foster Burnley,
Greyson Ergenbright,
Cormac Zachar,
Peter Rizzotti,
Colin Prince,
Peter Chabot,
Nate Koidahl,
Andrew Cave,
Drake Schaffner and
Spencer Warezak.
For two rookies, Dartmouth lacrosse is a family affair: Burnley's older brother, Alex, is a sophomore goalie, while Prince's brother, George, is a sophomore attackman.
GOALKEEPERS
With Christopher and
Alex Burnley returning for their third and second years, respectively, Callahan added one more goalie to the mix. Hincks will look to get some time in net during his first year in Hanover.
ESPN+
All of Dartmouth's home games in 2019 will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Fans can sign up to follow the Big Green all spring. Ivy League road games (when available) will also be broadcast.
