NEW HAVEN, Conn. – On day one of the men's team championships in New Haven, Conn., the No. 8 ranked Dartmouth men's squash team fell, 7-2, to the No. 1 ranked Harvard Crimson Friday afternoon.
Matt Giegerich faced Harvard's Marwen Tarek, who is the same opponent who swept him back on Dec. 5. This time around, Giegerich flipped the script and swept Tarek, 11-6, 11-9 and 11-7 in the No. 2 position.
Jack Bell also defeated his opponent in the No. 9 spot. Bell dropped the first game, 11-3, but finished strong, taking the next three, 11-7, 11-8 and 11-9. Bell is 2-0 against Harvard this season.
Tucker Martino played a strong match as well, falling in five games. Martino took a two-games-to-one advantage over Harvard's George Crowne, but ended up dropping the final two games, 11-5 and 11-9.
Dartmouth heads into day two of the championships when they take on Yale, who is hosting the event, Saturday at 11 a.m.
