The Class of 2019 |
THIS WEEKEND
•   The Dartmouth men's hockey team is back in Hanover and playing at Thompson Arena for the final time in the 2018-19 regular season.
•   The Big Green will host Yale on Friday and Brown on Saturday in the final two Ivy League games of the season.
•   Following Saturday's game against the Bears, the team will honor the six members of this year's senior class who will have just played in their final regular season home game.
LAST TIME OUT
•   For the second straight year, Dartmouth went to the North Country and left without a loss.
•   The Green and White earned three of a possible four points on the weekend, beating No. 11 Clarkson, 1-0, and playing to a hard-fought 2-2 tie at St. Lawrence the next evening.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
•   Yale enters the weekend with a 13-9-3 overall mark, but, more importantly, is 11-6-1 in ECAC Hockey games. That conference mark gives the Bulldogs 23 points, good for third, but just two points back of first-place Cornell and one of second-place Quinnipiac.
•   Joe Snively, an All-ECAC Hockey First Team selection from a season ago, leads the team in goals (13), assists (17) and points (30) and has 133 points in his career, 88 more than his next closest teammate.
•   Coach Keith Allain has used both senior Sam Tucker and junior Corbin Kaczperski between the pipes this season with the former having the edge in several statistical fields, while the later has one more win and three fewer losses.
•   Brown has been one of the best teams in ECAC Hockey as of late with a four-game unbeaten streak (2-0-2) and just one loss in its last seven games. That run has them 10-10-5 overall and 7-6-5 in-league.
•   Saturday's contest will have a playoff-like feel to it as the two teams are tied in the standings with 19 points each.
•   Saturday will also mark the third game of the season at Thompson for the Bears, who went 1-0-1 at the Ledyard Classic in late December. The team went out to Pittsburgh the following weekend and beat Robert Morris and Union by a combined 13-7 to win the Three Rivers Classic.
•   Senior Tommy Marchin leads in both goals (7) and points (18), while tied with rookie Tristan Crozier for the team lead with 11 assists. Like Yale, Brown uses two goalies with senior Gavin Nieto and sophomore Luke Kania seeing major minutes this season.
AGAINST THESE TEAMS
•   In the earlier match-up against Yale, Dartmouth scored 2:34 into the game on a
Carl Hesler shot and never looked back. That proved to be the winner and
Will Graber and
Quin Foreman added empty netters in the final minute and
Adrian Clark turned aside 31 for his first shutout of the season as the visiting Big Green won, 3-0.
•   A night before in Providence, Brown held off a late push for the equalizer by the boys in Green and then hit the empty net to seal a 4-2 victory at Meehan Auditorium. Graber and Foreman both scored and assisted on the other's goal for multi-point games.
HEY, ARE THE BIG GREEN GOING TO BE HOME?
•   "We don't know yet! Stop asking!"
•   That seems to be the most common answer given when asked about the upcoming league postseason.
•   As it stands now, Dartmouth is tied with Brown for sixth with each team boasting 19 points. Clarkson and Harvard are tied for fourth and the final potential bye.
•   Union is in eighth — the final home playoff spot in the first round — with 18 points, just one point back of the Big Green and Bears. The Dutchmen are at Colgate and Cornell this weekend. Â
•   Rensselaer is in ninth place with 14 points and looking to move up and into a home ice spot.
•   Only seven points separates first-place Cornell (25) and eighth-place Union (18).

THE CLASS OF 2019
•   Following Saturday's game, the team will honor the contributions of the six seniors.
•   Those six players are John Enrsting,
Alex Jasiek,
Cameron Roth, alternate captains
Connor Yau and
Carl Hesler and team captain
Kevan Kilistoff.
Â
AWARDS!
•   For the second time this season,
Adrian Clark was named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week.
•   Clark earned the accolade after the 1-0-1 weekend in the North Country and turning in his fourth shutout of 2018-19 with the win against the 11th-ranked Golden Knights.
•  Â
Drew O'Connor was named the DartmouthSports.com Male Athlete of the Week for scoring the game winner at Clarkson in the final minute to propel his team to two league points.
Â
LATE WINNER
•  Â
Drew O'Connor's game-winning goal at Clarkson came with just 32.9 seconds left in regulation, the latest a GWG scored this season by a Dartmouth player by almost eight minutes.
•   The previous latest GWG was scored by
Alex Jasiek with 8:18 remaining in the Jan. 18 game at Colgate, the other 1-0 Dartmouth win this season.
KEEPIN' OUT OF THE NET
•   Four shutouts this season by
Adrian Clark is the most by a Dartmouth goalie in the last seven decades.
•   The last time the Big Green posted four shutouts in a season was the 1953-54 season, accomplished by Gordon Russell. Prior to that, four shutouts in a single season was in 1928-29.
•   The program's record for the most in a year is five, accomplished in 1919-20, 1926-27.
•   Chester Gale owns the record for most in a single season with five in that 1919-20 campaign.
SHUTOUT STATS
•   Clark has 11 career wins and five career shutouts.
•   His five career shutouts are tied with Charles Grant '16 and Dick Desmond '49 for fifth all-time at Dartmouth. George Bott's seven over a career remains the top mark.
•   His first career win came on Jan. 17, 2017 against No. 6 Harvard, coming in for the final 33 minutes and not allowing the Crimson to score again as Dartmouth pulled the upset with an 8-4 come-from-behind win.
•   So, in more than half of Clark's collegiate wins, he has held opponents without a goal.
•   Clark's four shutouts this season have all come on the road and rank second in ECAC Hockey, trailing only Jake Kielly of Clarkson, the netminder opposite him in Friday's duel. Only Hayden Hawkey of Providence — the Ledyard Classic Champion this season — has more road shutouts (5) than Clark.
•   The 1-0 win Friday night marked the first Dartmouth shutout in Potsdam since 2005 (4-0) with the only other instance coming in 1949 (11-0).
A 1-0 GAME
•   For the first time ever, Dartmouth has won a pair of 1-0 games in the same season after accomplishing the feat at Colgate (1.18)
•   Before the two instances in 2018-19, the last time it happened was Feb. 28, 2014. On a night when No. 11 Cornell's Andy Iles broke the program's all-time saves record, the story of the game was happening at the other end of the ice. Charles Grant's second career shutout came via 36 saves and gave the Big Green their first in Ithaca since Jan. 23, 1960 (12-0), a span of more than 54 years.
•   The lone goal that night was scored by Tyler Sikura '15 just 1:54 into the second period.
•   In total, Dartmouth has won a 1-0 game on 15 occasions with several long gaps between occurrences.

FIRST OF THE SEASON
•  Â
Cameron Roth broke through for his first goal of the season and the first in nearly two years with an opening-period tally at St. Lawrence (2.16).
•   His floating wrist shot from the point ducked under the pad of the SLU goalie for the senior D-man's first goal since Jan. 28, 2017 at Cornell.
•   It's just the third goal of his career with his first coming as a sophomore against UMass Lowell in the Ledyard Classic on Dec. 31, 2016.
 TWO STRAIGHT
•  Â
Drew O'Connor is getting all the publicity for scoring the game winner, but it was
Clay Han that had the outstanding centering feed from the low circle to the rookie for the winner.
•   That marked Han's first assist of the season, a feat he matched the next night as he was credited with the primary helper on Roth's blast.
•   This is the first time Han has registered points in consecutive games.
ESPN+
•   All of Dartmouth home games will be carried this season on ESPN+ with Tyler Murray providing play-by-play at each home game in 2018-19.
•   In addition to games played in Hanover, ECAC Hockey road games at each school besides Rensselaer will also be carried on the network, making ESPN+ your home for 21-of-22 conference games and 25 regular season games total.
•   Postseason games will also be carried on ESPN+ in 2018-19 and will not need subscribers to pay any additional fees to watch the league's postseason.
ON THE AIR
•   Once again, Rob Kennedy will be the Voice of the Big Green on the radio.
•   Kennedy begins his second season with the team and will broadcast all 29 regular season games on 94 ESPN Radio (WTSL).
WHAT'S AHEAD?
•   The Big Green will finish off the 2018-19 regular season on the road at Union and RPI next weekend.
•   The first round of the ECAC Hockey Championship begins the weekend after that with the top-four teams in the standings earning a bye to the quarterfinals.
