THIS WEEKEND
Dartmouth women's hockey will close the season on the road this weekend when it takes on Yale and Brown for the second time in the last three weeks.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green said goodbye to their seniors in dramatic fashion by picking up three points against No. 4 Clarkson and St. Lawrence last weekend.
Â
Clarkson
A goal scored by
Chloe Puddifant with 9.4 seconds remaining in overtime lifted Dartmouth to a 3-2 victory over defending national champion at Thompson Arena on Friday.
Â
Trailing by two after the first period, the Green went on to score three unanswered goals to knock off the No. 4 team in the country. With time winding down in the extra period,
Jennifer Costa took a chance that was stopped by the goalie, but the rebound was sent directly to Puddifant. The rookie one-timed it over the netminder's left shoulder before she could react.
Â
This is the first time since Feb. 27, 2011 (another OT thriller) that Dartmouth has defeated the Golden Knights.
Â
Nine Big Green players ended up on the scoresheet.
Christina Rombaut,
Tess Bracken and Puddifant were credited with the goals.
Â
St. Lawrence
The Green and the Saints skated to a 0-0 tie on Senior Day Saturday.
Â
This is the first time since a 2-2 overtime tie on Jan. 6, 2016 that St. Lawrence has not walked away with a win. This is also the first time that Dartmouth has picked up three points in a weekend against the Golden Knights and the Saints since 2011.
Â
Shannon Ropp got the nod in net, starting her second game of the season. She played the first few minutes, made three saves and earned the tie before making way for
Christine Honor.
Â
GOALIE OF THE WEEK
Honor was named the ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week on Monday. This is the second time in her career that she has received the weekly award, after winning on Feb. 13, 2018 following a pair of ties against Union and RPI.
Â
The Mississauga, Ontario, native had an exceptional weekend, playing a huge role in Dartmouth's three points. Against Clarkson, she played all 65 minutes, allowing two goals while making 37 saves. The next day against St. Lawrence, she made 46 saves while helping give the Green their first shutout of the season. In 127 minutes this weekend, she made 83 saves, allowed just two goals, had 0.94 goals against average and a .976 save percentage.
Â
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Yale enters its final home weekend with an overall record of 7-18-2 and a conference mark of 6-12-2. The Bulldogs have been winless since their 2-0 victory over Dartmouth at the start of the month, tying Quinnipiac before falling to Princeton, Colgate and Cornell.
Â
LAST TIME AGAINST YALE
Dartmouth had some good chances but could not get past Yale's goalie, ultimately falling to the Bulldogs by a score of 2-0 on Feb. 2.
Â
The visitors opened scoring at 12:04 of the first and looked as if they had added another early in the second period, but the goal was waved off as it happened after the whistle. A few minutes later, Yale found the back of the net again, and this time it stuck, giving it a 2-0 advantage to take into the third. Bracken had a good chance, but netminder Tera Hofmann made the save.
Â
Dartmouth looked stronger in the third, took some quality shots and had some close calls, but was turned away each time.
Caroline Shaunessy and
Kate Landers gave the Green their best chances at the end of the game, but Hofmann was there to save them.
Â
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Brown heads into its game against Harvard with a 5-20-2 mark and a 2-16-2 ECAC Hockey record. The Bears have struggled and are currently on a 20-game winless streak which started following a 4-3 win over Cornell on Nov. 3. During that time, Brown tied Union and St. Lawrence.
Â
LAST TIME AGAINST BROWN
A pair of goals scored in each of the first two periods lifted Dartmouth to a 5-2 victory over Brown on Feb. 1. Eight different players combined for 14 points, being led by Rombaut and
Lotti Odnoga with a trio of points each. This is the first time in either of their careers that they have had a three-point performance. Honor had a good game and ended up with 33 saves.
Â
This was both Dartmouth's first five-goal game since a 5-0 win over Brown on Feb. 6, 2016 and its first win of 2019.
Â
LEADING THE WAY
We are back to having three players tied for team-lead: Bracken (6-6-12),
Sara McClanahan (6-6-12) and Odnoga (2-10-12). Bracken, McClanahan and
Alyssa Baker are first with two power play goals each and
Gabby Billing leads with her two shorthanded tallies.
Â
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Following her impressive performances over the weekend, Honor saw some changes to her stats. In 1350 minutes and 24 games, she has made 657, has a .910 save percentage and 2.89 goals against average. She is currently fifth in the conference in saves.
