PRINCETON, N.J. – Dartmouth women's swimming and diving concluded the 2019 Ivy League Championship on Saturday. The Big Green finished in sixth place with 709 points, only 7.5 ahead of Columbia in seventh. Harvard placed first for the second year in a row with 1,500 points.
Â
This is the highest Dartmouth has finished since coming fifth in 2013.
Â
The final day of the meet was highlighted by not one but two individual titles.
Mackenzie Stumpf won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.94), breaking her own record from her second-place finish at last year's championship. She is Dartmouth's first champion in the event since Andrea Hill won back-to-back titles in 1996-97.
Â
The very next event, the 200-yard fly, was won by
Mia Leko (1:57.62), who broke her own school record from December. This is the first time a Dartmouth swimmer has won the 200 fly since Karyn Bysshe in 1996. Both Stumpf and Leko were named first team All-Ivy by virtue of their first-place finishes.
Â
Sarah Minnigh broke a 12-year-old program record in the 1650-yard freestyle by nine seconds, placing third (16:30.60).
Molly Brickman also scored, coming in 15th place (17:10.31).
Susannah Laster and
Caroline Poleway competed in the C final of the 200-yard backstroke. Laster was 18th (2:00.93) and Poleway took 23rd (2:03.92).
Â
Five Dartmouth swimmers touched within a second of each other in the C final of the 100-yard freestyle, picking up a total of 15 points.
Ashley Post led the way in 20th (51.00) and was followed soon after by
Summer Martin (51.23),
Laura Barthold (51.45),
Zoe Wortzman (51.48) and
Sophie Smith (52.07).
Â
In the 200 breast,
Maggie Deppe-Walker was 13th (2:18.89),
Melanya Zaraska came in 17th (2:19.81) and
Kenna Van Steyn took 23rd (2:25.60). In the 200 fly, Zaraska swam her second final of the evening, taking 19th (2:03.32), while
