The Big Green left seven runners on base
HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth strung together a three run seventh inning, but it was not enough as the Big Green dropped game three of the series against Harvard, 4-3, Sunday afternoon. The Big Green (6-23, 3-9 Ivy) left seven runners on base, while the Crimson (16-13, 9-3 Ivy) stay tied in first place in the Ivy League standings with Columbia.
Â
Shelby Wilkison did all she could in the circle, the sophomore went 4.1 innings, giving up two earned on four hits. Madie Augusto pitched the final 2.2 innings and allowed one earned on just two hits with a strikeout. Katie Duncan tossed another complete game for Harvard, she allowed just one earned run on five hits and struck out six.
Â
All of Dartmouth runs came in the seventh inning. Taylor Ward picked up two hits in the contest with two RBI and Micah Schroder also drove in a run.
Â
Harvard did not get its first hit of the game until the fourth inning, but still managed to bring a run home in the first. The run scored when Trina Hoang walked, stole second and advanced to third on a fly out. A Dartmouth error then allowed Hoang to score and make it 1-0 Crimson.
Â
The Crimson put together a three-run fifth inning starting with back-to-back doubles and ending with consecutive base hits to extend the Harvard lead to 4-0.
Â
Dartmouth had runners on second and third in the fourth with one out and loaded the bases in the fifth, also with one gone. Both times the Big Green were unable to bring across any runs.
Â
The Big finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh. Calista Almer and Billie McFadyen both reached base and Ward hit her first triple of the year over the right fielders head to make it a 4-2 deficit. Schroder then knocked in Ward to make it 4-3. It would not be enough as the game came to close on a foul ball fly out in right field.
Â
