Throughout the summer, DartmouthSports.com will be focusing on members of the Class of 2021 who are currently in their "Sophomore Summers" presented by Cape Air.
This installment focuses on
George Prince of the men's lacrosse team. The Bradenton, Florida, native scored 16 goals this past spring, good for third on the team.
Â
DartmouthSports.com: Â What have you been doing during your sophomore summer?
George Prince: One of my favorite things to do during the summer here is to enjoy the outdoors with the other members of my class. The weather during this time of year is amazing, and the Upper Valley area provides plenty of areas to swim, hike and adventure.
Â
DS: What is your favorite place on campus?
GP: Right now, my favorite area is the docks on the Connecticut River. The docks provide a great place to swim, relax and cool off after a workout.
Â
DS: What was it in the recruiting process that sold you on Dartmouth?
GP: During the recruitment process, the combination of athletics, led by my love and respect for the lacrosse coaching staff, as well as Dartmouth's prodigious reputation in academics, ultimately led my decision to attend Dartmouth.
Â
DS: If you could swap places with one teammate, who would it be and why?
GP: If I could swap places with another teammate, I would swap with
Peter Rizzotti. Not only is he one of the most athletic/intelligent players on the field at all times, but he also is a great teammate and communicator. Plus, I would get another sophomore summer next year.
Â
DS: If you could play another sport at Dartmouth, what would it be and why?
GP: If I could play another sport, I would play hockey. Growing up in Boston, the first sport I ever played was hockey. The men's hockey team has a great group of guys, and luckily, both lacrosse and hockey share many similar traits, so I think the transition back could be smooth.
Â
DS: Outside of sports, what are you most passionate about?
GP: I am very passionate about my academics, specifically within the history department. Last year, I declared to be a history major, as I knew early on that I wanted to pursue American history, as well as Asian (Russian, Japanese, Korean) history. Luckily, Dartmouth has one of the top history departments in the country to assist me with my research.
Â
DS: Other than your parents, who has had the greatest influence on your life?
GP: All my siblings have had a huge impact on my life. My three older sisters (Ivy, Ali and Kathryn) have all poured their love and support to me over the years and have helped me get to where I am now. My two younger brothers (Colin and DJ) have always been my best friends and have pushed me to be my best while having fun.
Â
DS: What has been your best on-field memory thus far in your Dartmouth career?
GP: My best on-field memory was this past year, where I assisted my brother, Colin, in his second career goal here at Dartmouth. It was an amazing feeling to see all the hard work in the backyard pay off at the highest level after all these years.
Â
DS: How is Hanover different or similar to where you grew up?
GP: Over the past 12 years, I have lived in Bradenton, Florida, which made my first winter in Hanover tough. However, I have absolutely loved it here since, as once you get used to the weather (and buy the right winter coat), it makes you appreciate the change in seasons. It provokes a college-wide sense of urgency to enjoy the day when the sun is out.
Â
DS: What would be your best advice to your 15-year-old self?
GP: I would tell myself that the most important thing it to remember the most important things. Do not let a day go by without appreciating and recognizing your Faith, Family and Friends.
