Dartmouth Stumbles in Season Opener at Northeastern

Huskies defeat Big Green, 8-1, in first game of 2019 season.
DEDHAM, Mass. – The Dartmouth field hockey team dropped its season opener Friday at Northeastern.
The Huskies (3-0) defeated the Big Green, 8-1, in the first game of 2019 season for the visitors.
Senior Carmen Braceras scored the lone Dartmouth (0-1) goal of the game in the 50th minute with Tatum Schultz picking up the assist.
Northeastern's Lauren Rowe found the back of the cage three times and had one assist for a game-high seven points. Five other members of the home team scored goals with Alli Meehan and Camille O'Connor both finishing with three-point afternoons.
Sophomore Isabella Santucci got her first start in goal for the Green and White, making 10 saves in the full 60 minutes of action.
"We have nowhere to go but up," head coach Amy Fowler said. "This is not the start we envisioned, nor one we would have expected with our progress through preseason. We need to learn some valuable lessons, make some adjustments and bring a level of play that is more indicative of our current standards.
"Northeastern is a strong, fast team and they took advantage of many of our miscues," Fowler added. "We need to regroup quickly for our home opener against another strong regional team Sunday."
The Big Green kick off the home slate Sunday against UMass with a start time of 1 p.m. set for Chase Field's 2019 debut.
