THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth field hockey team opens the 2019 season with a pair of games this weekend, opening Friday afternoon at Northeastern before kicking off the home schedule Sunday against UMass.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green posted a 6-11 record last season and were 2-5 in Ivy League play.
LEADING THE WAY
• After leading the team in scoring for the second straight season,
Katie Spanos has been named the team's captain for 2019.
• A member of the All-Ivy League First Team last season, Spanos scored nine goals for the second straight year and finished with 19 points.
• She enters her senior season with 18 goals — including six game winners — scored in her last two campaigns with Dartmouth.
CAPTAINS
Joining Spanos in a leadership role is classmate
Jocelyn Wulf, who will serve as an assistant captain in 2019.
FRESH FACES
• Head coach
Amy Fowler, associate head coach
Pattie Gillern and assistant coach
Taylor Rideout recruited six new members of the Class of 2023 to join the Big Green this season.
•
Lauren Devletian (D),
Holley Cromwell (F), Amélie Perrier (M),
Myah Pease (D),
Margaret Barnes (M) and
Hatley Post (GK) are this year's crop of first-year players set to leave their mark on the Big Green.
FRIDAY'S GAME
The season opener Friday at Northeastern will not only be carried on Northeastern's webstream, but also on NESNplus for those who have it included in their cable package.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
• Northeastern is already 2-0 as it plays host to Dartmouth on Friday.
• The Huskies opened the season with a 3-0 win at Holy Cross last Friday before earning a 3-2 win Sunday at home against Monmouth. The one-goal win against the Hawks came thanks to Alli Meehan's second of the season finding the back of the cage in overtime in the 67th minute.
• Julia Gluyas has played all 127 minutes in goal and boasts a 1.10 goals-against average to go along with her .875 save percentage that is aided greatly by a shutout of Holy Cross in the opener.
AGAINST NORTHEASTERN
• Dartmouth is seeking its first win against the Huskies since 1987.
• These two teams met last season in Hanover with the Howlin' Huskies coming away with a 5-1 win.
SCOUTING THE MINUTEWOMEN
• UMass is 0-2 to start the season with a pair of losses on the road to ranked teams.
• The Minutewomen dropped the opener, 7-0, at No. 14 Ohio State and followed with a heart-breaking 1-0 defeat at Louisville on a fourth-quarter penalty stroke.
• With two shutouts to start the season, no UMass player has registered a point.
• Prior to Sunday's game at Chase Field, the Minutewomen will play at Yale on Friday night. The four-game roadtrip to start 2019 will wrap up Sunday at 1 p.m. against the Green and White.
AGAINST UMASS
• The two have alternated wins in the last seven match-ups over the course of a dozen years dating back to the 2007 season.
• Dartmouth won last year's contest in Amherst, 4-3.
• This will be the time hosting UMass in Hanover since a 2010 contest.
A WIN WOULD…
• …Be much better than a loss.
• …Be the 361st in program history (360-344-33).
• …Be the first in a season opener for the Big Green since defeating UMass, 3-1, in 2012. That season started with a road win at UMass on a Friday evening, followed by a home loss to Northeastern on a Sunday…

• Following that trip to the Bay State, the Green and White begin a four-game stand that stretches through the end of the month and includes the Ivy League opener against Princeton (Sept. 28
