Dartmouth places in the top five in each of its opening races
MEDFORD, Mass. – Dartmouth sailing started its season this past weekend and placed in the top five in each of its races, including two victories. The Big Green finished first and third of nine boats in the Tufts Invite, first of 18 boats in the Harry Anderson Trophy at Yale and fourth of 16 in the Toni Deutsch '58 Regatta at MIT.
Two boats competed for the Big Green in the Tufts Invite. The team of skippers Noah Simmons, Nick Hurley and Eliza Crocker and crew members Emma Barska, Josh Cherner and Christopher Long won the event. The A boat of Simmons and Barska placed in the top five in every race for 17 points, while the B boat of Hurley, Crocker, Cherner and Long had three top-five finishes for 24 points.
Skippers Michael Tellini and James Paul along with crew members Christopher Cheng, Emma Leary and Drew Clutterbuck finished third in the Invite. The A boat of Tellini, Cheng and Leary had two wins and two second-place finishes for 14 points. The B boat of James Paul and Drew Clutterbuck had the second-best score among B boats with 11, which included a victory.
The team of skippers Audrey Giblin, Max Clapp and Boyd Bragg and crews Paige Clarke and Eloise Burn came in first of 18 boats with 160 points in the Harry Anderson Trophy. The A boat of Giblin and Clarke placed in the top five 11 times with three wins for 71 points. The B boat of Clapp, Bragg and Burn had 10 top-five finishes with four victories for 89 points.
Skippers Kathryn Hall and Payton Thompson and crews Aisling Sullivan, Annika Rogers and Maddie Sharp finished fourth of 16 boats with 205 points in the Toni Deutsch '58 Regatta. The A boat of Hall and Sullivan had nine top-five finishes with three wins for 96 points. The B boat of Thompson, Rogers and Sharp placed in the top five six times with one victory for 109 points.
Next weekend (Sept. 14-15) Dartmouth is scheduled to race in the Regis Trophy at Harvard, the Hatch Brown Trophy at MIT and the Barnett Trophy at Bowdoin.
