Dartmouth sailing head coach
Justin Assad has announced the hiring of two assistant coaches for the 2020-21 season.
Rebecca McElvain '19 returns to her alma mater after a four-year career with the Big Green while
Dirk Johnson comes from the Coast Guard Academy where he was an assistant coach in 2019-20.

McElvain led the Big Green as captain as a senior and was named an All-American Crew in each of her last two seasons while receiving honorable mention as a freshman. She was also All-NEISA Crew First Team twice and Second Team in her first two years. Prior to Dartmouth, she was a seven-time national champion at the high school level in various types of boats and was named the 2015 San Diego Area Yacht Clubs Woman Sailor of the Year. She has also served as a sailing instructor at the San Diego Yacht Club off and on since 2014.

Johnson competed for Roger Williams for one year before enrolling at the College of Charleston, serving as a 4th skipper for three years and graduating in 2019. Last year, he assisted the Coast Guard Academy varsity dinghy team, and he continues to race competitively, finishing fourth at Team Racing Midwinters in December. Johnson also finished second at the U.S. Team Racing Nationals back in 2017.
