HANCOCK, Mass./LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — The Dartmouth women's alpine team won its sixth consecutive carnival event, beating out the field in the slalom on Saturday, to help the Big Green finish up the Williams Carnival in third place with a total of 752 points. Middlebury earned its second straight carnival victory by edging out Vermont, 855-843.
Although Dartmouth did not send anyone to the podium in the slalom races at Jiminy Peak, the women still managed to earn the victory. Senior
Stephanie Currie had a chance to take one of the top three spots after roaring down the mountain in 48.22 seconds on her first run, leaving her in second, and sophomore
Abi Jewett wasn't far behind in fourth with a time of 48.35 seconds. Two others — junior
Stephanie Lebby (49.17) and junior
Claire Thomas (49.20) sat in sixth and seventh, respectively, giving the Green a strong cluster. In the end, Currie settled for fourth with a combined time of 1:38.65 with Jewett right behind in fifth in 1:38.70, while Thomas provided the final scoring time of 1:39.93, good for seventh. Dartmouth's 115 points put them 10 ahead of New Hampshire and 14 ahead of Middlebury, but it was Williams' Madeleine Dekko who took the individual gold in 1:37.78.
The men had two skiers in the top eight after the first run in junior
Drew Duffy (48.49 seconds, seventh) and senior
Kipling Weisel (48.52, eighth). Weisel leap-frogged his teammate on the second tour, posting the third fastest-time of the afternoon to claim fifth overall in 1:35.33. Duffy maintained his place in seventh with a combined time of 1:35.64, and senior
James Ferri gave Dartmouth a third in the top 10 by taking 10th in 1:36.46. The top four spot were taken by Middlebury and Vermont with the Panthers' Justin Alkier ending up on the top podium step in 1:33.85, edging out the Catamounts' Joachim Jagge Lindstoel in 1:34.06. And like the individual results, Middlebury edged out Vermont for the team title, 128-124, with the Big Green in third (104).
The Nordic races at Mt. Van Hoevenberg today were of the 3x5K freestyle relay variety, and the Big Green trio of senior

Mara McCollor skated their way to third place in the women's race in 40:57.6, good for 96 points. And although only the first team for each school to finish was credited with points, Dartmouth's young threesome of sophomore
Rena Schwartz, freshman
Anna Lehmann and sophomore
Molly Gellert placed fifth overall in 41:46.7. Middlebury took the gold in just over 40 minutes even (40:01.1) while Vermont took second in 40:34.1.
Vermont set a torrid pace in the men's relay, finishing up in 34:34.9, more than a minute ahead of New Hampshire (35:40.6). The Big Green group consisting of freshman

Walker Bean and junior
Adam Glueck ended up seventh overall with a time of 36:13.5 to bolster Dartmouth's team score with 68 points. Another trio of junior

Next up for Dartmouth is the Eastern Regional at the Middlebury Carnival on Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, Feb. 29.
