FIFTH-YEAR (2020): Began the year with a top-10 finish at Harvard in the giant slalom (9th) … missed the carnivals at Colby and Bates with an injury … returned for the Williams Carnival to place 10th in the slalom.
SENIOR (2019): First-team All-American in the giant slalom after finishing third at the NCAA Championships … All-East Second Team … sixth-ranked men’s alpine skier in the East … finished in the top 10 in two of the first six carnival races but was 11th in the other four … fourth-place showing at Winter Carnival was his best career finish in the slalom … broke through with his first career collegiate victory by winning the GS at the East Regional hosted by Bates … shined at NCAAs with his third-place finish in the GS, then took 22nd in the slalom.
JUNIOR (2018): Overcame injuries during his first two years to make his carnival debut at Winter Carnival … impressed in the giant slalom, placing seventh, and took 28th in the slalom … skied again at the East Regional at Middlebury, earning points for the Big Green in the GS by finishing sixth.
BEFORE DARTMOUTH: James lettered in lacrosse his freshman and sophomore years and participated in alpine ski racing all four years of high school at both Simsbury High School and Killington Mountain School ... in his 2013-2014 season at the U18 nationals, he placed third in the giant slalom and slalom, and first in the parallel slalom.
PERSONAL: Son of Michael and Santina Ferri ... has two brothers ... his relative Jessica Ferri Schmitz was on the Dartmouth alpine ski team, Class of 1995 ... plans on studying economics while at Dartmouth … participates in the Dartmouth Outing Club.
