HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's hockey team saw its season come to an end with a 2-1 loss against No. 7 Clarkson on Senior Day Saturday.
Freshman
Georgia Kraus scored her second goal of the season to give the Big Green a 1-0 lead late in the first, but a Golden Knight goal in each of the remaining periods gave the win to the visitors.
Senior
Bailee Brekke assisted on the marker, picking up the last point of her career. In net, fellow senior
Charlie Plumb got the first start of her career. Junior
Kayla Wormsbecher came in and played the remainder of the game, making 26 saves.
At the end of the game, Brekke and Plumb and their classmates
Christina Rombaut and
Sydney Hill were recognized and thanked for their four years of dedication to the program.
"I thought we played another tremendous game," head coach
Laura Schuler said. "It was a close, back-and-forth, exciting game of hockey and I thought we definitely had some really good chances. Kayla was great again and our seniors battled hard from start to finish. I couldn't be prouder of them and their commitment to excellence throughout the year and their entire careers at Dartmouth."
The game remained scoreless until 15:58 of the first period, when Kraus found some open net to give Dartmouth (7-19-3, 4-15-3) a 1-0 advantage. The Green looked strong, outshooting the Golden Knights, 13-9.
It looked as if Dartmouth would hold on to that one-goal edged throughout the entirety of the second period, but a Clarkson (23-5-6, 14-4-4) tally with eight seconds to go tied things up at one.
In a fight to break the tie, it was the Golden Knights that won that battle, scoring their second goal at 8:55 of the third period. Dartmouth never stopped fighting and got very close to evening the score, but was kept out of the net at each turn.
The Golden Knights had a slight 28-26 shot advantage. Neither team was able to score with the extra player.
