BOCA RATON, Fla. — The Dartmouth women's golf team is getting its first action of the spring season with a 54-hole tournament at the FAU Winter Warmup on Monday and Tuesday. The first day will feature two rounds before concluding with the third and final round the following day.
The Big Green will hone their game against a strong 14-team field that includes three other Ivy League squads — Columbia, Princeton and Yale — along with Arkansas State, Butler, Charleston Southern, Eastern Kentucky, McNeese State, Quinnipiac, Seton Hall, Western Carolina, Xavier and the host school, Florida Atlantic.
"It certainly will be nice to get outside and see the ball fly," said
Alex Kirk, the Carolyn A. Pelzel '54a Head Coach of Women's Golf and 2019 Ivy League Women's Golf Coach of the Year. "The field is very good and will give us a good test to start the spring."
Teeing up for the Big Green will be a fivesome that has two returning All-Ivy golfers in sophomore
Kaitlyn Lees (first team) and senior
Maddie Nelson (second team) along with sophomore
Kristen Chen and a pair of promising freshman in
Samantha Yao and
Angela Zhang. Lees led the way in the fall with two top-20 finishes in the three tournaments while posting a 75.3 stroke average. Both Zhang and Yao placed in the top 20 once to start their collegiate careers, with Yao tying for fifth at the Princeton Invitational for the top showing by any Dartmouth golfer.
But the Green will have to do without the services of junior
Moon Cheong, who won this tournament two years ago as a freshman then placed sixth last year. She is currently off-term but will return for the spring quarter and in time for the next tournament, the Bama Bash, on March 20-22.
The tournament at Osprey Point Golf Club in Boca Raton, Florida, will begin with a shotgun start on Monday at 7:45 a.m. Dartmouth will be paired up with golfers from Arkansas State and Xavier. Live scoring for the event will be provided through
