TEMPE, Ariz. – Dartmouth men's tennis senior
Charlie Broom was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Region Senior Player of the Year on Monday.
Â
Broom bookended his impressive career with postseason awards from the ITA, being named the Rookie of the Year in 2017 before receiving this most recent award three years later.
Â
The Hertfordshire, England, native went 17-7 in singles and 12-9 in doubles during a season shortened by COVID-19. He had a good fall, making it to the ITA All-America second round in both singles and doubles before becoming the first Dartmouth player to win the ITA Northeast Regional singles title since 2015.
Â
In 2020, Broom played all but one of his singles matches at the No. 1 position. He was ranked as high as No. 52 in the nation in singles and No. 28 in doubles alongside classmate
David Horneffer. The two, who played doubles together for the majority of the past three seasons, went on a seven-match unbeaten streak in the early part of the 2020 season (Jan. 18 – Feb. 7).
Â
The national winners will be announced on Monday, May 25.
