Santa Clara, Calif. –The Dartmouth men's tennis team split a pair of matches in California over the weekend, defeating Pacific, 4-0, on Friday before falling to No. 39 Santa Clara, 6-1, on Saturday.
Against Pacific, the Big Green secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. The duo of Henry Ren and Miles Groom earned a 6-3 victory, while Malhar Patel and Calvin Wang followed with a 6-4 win to give Dartmouth the early advantage.
Dartmouth then clinched the match with three straight-set singles victories. Adrian Treacy posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles, Yujiro Onuma followed with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 5, and Leo Pade sealed the team win with a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 6.
The following day, Dartmouth opened strong in doubles against nationally ranked Santa Clara. The team of Patel and Wang earned a 6-3 victory over the Broncos' ranked pair, while the No. 78-ranked duo of Groom and Ren defeated Santa Clara's No. 50 tandem in a 7-6 (7-2) tiebreaker to secure the doubles point.
Santa Clara responded in singles play, winning all six matches to take the overall victory. Ren pushed his match at No. 1 singles to three sets after claiming the first set before the Broncos rallied to win the final two.
With the split, Dartmouth moved to 12-5 on the season.
