TEMPE, Ariz. – Dartmouth women's tennis senior
Catherine Cable received the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award on Monday.
In addition to Cable's individual award, the team was named ITA Community Service Award Honorable Mention.
The Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award is given to a Division I women's tennis player who displays inspiring dedication and commitment to her team, which has enhanced the team's performance and exemplified the spirit of college tennis. It dates back to 1997 and is in memory of the late and widely admired Penn women's tennis coach, Cissie Leary.
Cable went 11-10 in singles and 9-7 in doubles during a season shortened by COVID-19. She played most of her singles matches in 2020 at the No. 3 or 4 positions and ended the year on a two-match winning streak.
In doubles, she played alongside either
Ashley Hess,
Chidimma Okpara or
Emily Zhou, defeating players from Binghamton and UMass. She was named the Most Improved Player on the team at the end of the season.
Cable is the fifth player in Dartmouth history to receive the award after Julia Schroeder (2018), Jacqueline Crawford (2017), Molly Scott (2011) and Mary Beth Winingham (2010).
The national winners will be announced on Monday, May 25.
