DartmouthSports.com will be recognizing the senior student-athletes who had their spring seasons canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today's senior: Jack Richardson of the men's lacrosse team.
DartmouthSports.com: What is your favorite on-field memory?
Jack Richardson: My favorite on-field memory was winning our opening game this season. We played at Merrimack, and although they were not a top team, that win was a buildup of multiple seasons of growth and sacrifice that the program had never tasted in my time. Watching the joy and confidence of my teammates as the moment built from that game throughout our season was incredible.
DS: What is your favorite non-sports memory from your time at Dartmouth?
JR: I would say late night dinners at FOCO were some of my most amazing memories at school. Getting to joke around after tough practices and stressful days of school were much needed. Our team would take up entire tables in the dining hall while we got to joke around and laugh till we could barely breathe. But, at the same time, we got to learn about each other's backgrounds and bond. It was that special place where we could all step away from sports and school.
DS: Why did you choose Dartmouth?
JR: I chose Dartmouth for two reasons. One, being the most common reason, is that when you come to Dartmouth, the academics and people you are surrounded by change your life forever. You get a degree from one of the best schools in the world and get to spend four years with some of the most accomplished and incredible people on earth. The second reason, which was really important to me, is that when you choose to come play lacrosse at Dartmouth, you are walking into the opportunity to make history. By going to a lot of other programs, you just become another guy in the same system, but by coming to Dartmouth, you have the chance to bring success and change to the program like never before.
DS: What food could you eat every single day?
JR: Bagels. I love bagels. I could eat toasted everything bagels with cream cheese every day for the rest of my life with a big smile.
DS: If you could have played another sport, what would it be and why?
JR: If I could have played another sport, I would have absolutely wanted to play football. Growing up, football was always my passion and I put everything into it, hoping to play in college one day. On top of that, the program at Dartmouth has been fantastic the last few seasons and it would have been a great experience to try and contribute to that.
DS: What was your favorite place on campus?
JR: My favorite place on campus was Novack Café. It is where I did all my studying and homework. I loved how you could do work and see outside the large windows as the sun would go down. Along with nice views, it was super convenient to get snacks and drinks during late nights.
DS: What is the best gift you ever received?
JR: One of the best gifts I ever received was a small piece of advice from a mentor who I got very close with in my time at Dartmouth. Before his departure from Dartmouth, he told me about the importance of the relationship with your friends and teammates. How awards and successes may fade, but the friendships and bonds you make during those moments are life changing and forever.
DS: Other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life?
JR: I would say my closest friends have had the next biggest influence in my life. I was fortunate enough that growing up and in college, my circle was filled with people who helped me and motivated me in all aspects. From things like my perspective to my training to my grades and all things in between, being surrounded by them helped me get to where I am today.
