Dartmouthsports.com will be recognizing the senior student-athletes who had their spring seasons canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today's senior … Chuyang Guan of the women's tennis team.
DartmouthSports.com: What is your favorite on-court memory?
Chuyang Guan: My favorite memory was when we won Ivies my freshman spring. The feeling was amazing because this was the first time I won something not only for myself but with a team. You get to see everyone's hard work paying off, and it was a unique experience I got to share with my teammates and coaches.
DS: Why Dartmouth?
CG: I chose Dartmouth for both tennis and academic reasons. Dartmouth is a top liberal arts school and it provided me the opportunity to explore other areas of study outside my major. When I made my official visit to the school, I really liked the inclusive culture vibe I got from the tennis team. Everyone genuinely cares for one another and the team is like a family to me.
DS: What food could you eat every day?
CG: I think I can eat oranges every single day and not get sick of them. I generally enjoy eating fruit and eat it every day anyway. Any other food, I would get sick of it after about a week.
DS: How have you been spending your time at home?
CG: I have mostly been studying and trying to make the most of my senior spring. I am an optimist and see quarantine and the pandemic as a time to reflect on my time at Dartmouth.
DS: If you could swap places with one teammate, who would it be?
CG: I would choose
Catherine Cable. I have a lot of respect for her and admire her work ethic. She had two hip surgeries and two major wrist injuries during her four years at Dartmouth, yet she continued to fight and contribute as much as she could, both on and off the court. Her resilience and positive attitude are incredibly inspiring. I would love to switch places with her and see how she does it. Maybe even gain a few pointers from stepping into her shoes.
DS: If you could have played another sport, what would it be?
CG: I would play squash because I really like playing racquet sports. I actually joined club squash my junior year and enjoy friendly competition.
DS: What was your favorite place on campus?
CG: My favorite place on campus is Alumni Gym because I often spent a lot of time there during our off-season and finals period. One of the ways I try to cope with stress is through exercise. I enjoy running and it helps me relax and get my mind off things.
DS: Do you have a hidden talent?
CG: I can solve a Rubik's Cube. I can solve a 2x2 through 5x5. I stopped after the 5x5 because I decided I needed a new hobby and wanted to explore other things.
