HANOVER, N.H. — The Big Green earn their second win of the season in a 1-0 game against Vermont, Tuesday night at home. Freshman midfielder
Finn Callahan scored the lone goal and freshman goalkeeper
Costi Christodoulou recorded his first career shutout and assisted on the goal.
One goal was the difference in a game that went back and forth for 90 minutes. Dartmouth's (2-9, 0-3) only goal came late in the first half. In the 35th minute, Christodoulou picked up the ball in his own box and waded through a group of Vermont (8-4-2, 3-1-1) players. He then punted the ball deep down the field and Callahan outran the last Catamount defender and tapped the ball past the goalkeeper and into the bottom right corner. After one half, each team had one shot on goal, one corner kick and Vermont led in shots, 6-4.
The second half was back and forth just like first. Christodoulou shined and made three saves in the final 45 minutes to preserve the Big Green's one-goal lead. It was his first career shutout in just his second career start. Dartmouth's defense was stout and helped clear out several menacing attacks from Vermont in the second half to keep the team in front. Both the Big Green's victories this season have come on Tuesday nights.
Dartmouth will look to earn a win on a Saturday this weekend when they take on Columbia at 7 p.m., in an Ivy matchup that will be streamed on ESPN+.
