BATTLE OF THE UNDEFEATED
Dartmouth and Harvard, both with records of 5-0, will meet at Brophy Field on Saturday, Oct. 23. I would say that there are no ties in rugby, but the 19-19 game that Brown and Army played last month proves that wrong. Regardless, only one team will (should) remain undefeated afterwards. Who will it be?
LAST TIME OUT
On Oct. 9, the Big Green had a 70-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's during Homecoming weekend.
- This is only the fourth time in program history that Dartmouth hasn't allowed its opponent to score, the last time being a 57-0 defeat of Princeton in 2017.
- Eight players had a hand in the 10 tries, being led by Idia Ihensekhien and Asialeata Meni with two apiece.
- Lillian Johnson and Hannah Sheehy both scored their first collegiate tries in the second half.
- Dartmouth didn't miss a single conversion, with Abbey Savin hitting six to lead the team with 12 points. Kristin Bitter had the other four.
- The Big Green had a 42-0 advantage at the half following tries by Bitter, Emily Henrich, Ihensekhien (2), Lilly Durbin and Ale Ada.
- The home team started the second with back-to-back Meni tries and, after career-firsts by Johnson and Sheehy and conversions by Bitter, the score was 70-0. The Mountaineers tried to score but were stopped.
LEADING THE WAY
Durbin is still first among the Big Green with a team-leading nine tries for 45 points, while Henrich is right behind with 40 points from seven tries, one conversion and one penalty kick. She is also first on the team with 11 assists.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Harvard has always been an incredibly tough competitor, and this season is no different. The Crimson have dominated against Mount St. Mary's (53-5), LIU (109-5), Sacred Heart (53-0), Quinnipiac (60-24) and Brown (60-8) and only have Army West Point left after this weekend.
DARTMOUTH VS. HARVARD RIVALRY
The Crimson have been a steady rival for the Big Green since they first started playing each other before going varsity in 2015. Dartmouth had a seven-game winning streak that lasted from 2015 until 2018, when Harvard got its first win of the varsity series. Dartmouth made up for it, rebounding to win the NIRA National Championship that year.
The teams played each other three times in 2019-20: the Crimson won on home turf in September, but the Green were victorious at the Ivy Rugby Championship. The last time they met on Nov. 9, 2019, Harvard had a 23-22 win in the NIRA Semifinal. The Crimson went on to win the national championship by downing Army.
SENIOR DAY FESTIVITIES
Dartmouth has a very large senior class; including the five players who returned for their fifth years and volunteer assistant coach
Kathleen Mulligan '21 who didn't get to celebrate her own senior season, the Big Green will be recognizing 19 players. The celebration will take place after the game.
