HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth took home a 1-0 victory against Albany, Tuesday night. It was the first victory of the season for the Big Green.
Freshman midfielder
Ben Jenkins scored the team's lone goal off a corner kick from freshman defender
Louis Weisdorf. Senior goalkeeper
Alex Budnik made seven saves in his first shutout of the season.
Dartmouth (1-7, 0-1) controlled play for a majority of the first half. They kept constant pressure in Albany's (6-4, 1-1) half and earned five corner kicks to the Great Danes' one. Their goal came off of a corner in the 30th minute. Jenkins rose up to meet the ball played in by Weisdorf and flicked the ball into the back of the net. The score was 1-0 at the half as the two teams went back and forth.
The Great Danes came out aggressively and maintained pressure for the entirety of the second half. The Big Green defense along with Budnik stood strong and pushed away every attack from Albany. Budnik made five of his seven saves in the second half and the Dartmouth defense fended off eight second half corner kick opportunities by the Great Danes. In the end, Jenkins' lone goal was enough, and the Big Green earned their first victory.
Dartmouth returns to action this Saturday. They hit the road for an Ivy matchup against Yale at 7 p.m.
