Return from Exams
• Dartmouth plays its first game in 12 days following fall exams when it takes the court at Bryant on Sunday afternoon.
• The Big Green have won two straight, the first a 69-60 victory at Georgetown (their first win over a major conference team in 32 years) followed by a 114-74 win over D-III NVU-Lyndon.
• The 114 points are tied for the second most ever for Dartmouth.
• All 17 players that dressed had at least one field goal, the most ever to score in a game for the Big Green.
•
Brendan Barry was a perfect 5-for-5 beyond the arc — the fourth the 200th of his collegiate career between Dartmouth and Temple — to score a team-high 15 points.
•
Aaryn Rai, the Big Green's second-leading scorer and top rebounder in 2019-20, got going with 13 points and a team-high eight boards in just 12 minutes on the court.
• With 14 3-pointers against the Hornets, the Big Green have hit 30 triples in the last two games, tied for the second most in program history.
• Five players scored their first collegiate points in the win —
Nikola Dimitrijevic,
Cade Haskins,
Jaren Johnson,
Robert McRae III and
Izaiah Robinson.
• The defense did allow NVU-Lyndon to hit 15 trifectas, a total bested only twice by an opponent in Dartmouth history.
Series vs. Bryant
• These two teams first played in 2011 and have met nine times with the Bulldogs holding a slim 5-4 advantage.
• Bryant has won the last two meetings, but neither team has won more than two in a row.
• In the last meeting two years ago, Bryant held off the Big Green in Leede Arena, 64-60, with four Bulldogs scoring in double figures, all of whom have moved on.
• Two Dartmouth players posted double-doubles in the game —
Chris Knight (21 pts., 10 reb.) and
Aaryn Rai (13, 10) — but 3-of-17 shooting from the perimeter doomed the Green.
• The Big Green are 17-15 all-time against current Northeast Conference schools.
Scouting the Bulldogs
• Bryant has won its past two games to even its record at 3-3, defeating Holy Cross by 16 and Brown on Friday by a 65-59 score.
• Four players scored in double figures in the most recent win, led by guard Peter Kiss with 16 points.
• Kiss, who missed the first two games, is averaging 22.5 points, boosted by a 35-point performance in the 78-62 win over Holy Cross, while shooting 53.5 percent from the floor.
• Others scoring in double figures are guard Charles Pride (13.5 ppg with a team-best 6.3 rpg) and reserve Chris Childs (12.6 ppg while shooting 46.4 percent from long range).
• The Bulldogs like to play at a fast pace with the 22nd fastest tempo by Kenpom.com.
• Bryant also will fire up the three often, ranked 25th in the nation in attempts but outside the top 200 in percentage (32.6).
• Watch out down low for Hall Elisias, whose 4.0 blocks per game are third most in the country.
• Jared Grasso (Quinnipiac '02) is in his fourth year as the program's eighth head coach and enters this game with a record of 43-47 at the reins (well, leash) of the Bulldogs. He spent the previous eight years as an assistant at Iona following one season as Fordham's head coach.
Everybody Plays, Everybody Scores
On Nov. 16, Dartmouth played its home opener against Division III NVU-Lyndon, giving all 17 players that dressed a chance to see some court time. Each one of those 17 hit at least one field goal with five players —
Nikola Dimitrijevic,
Cade Haskins,
Jaren Johnson,
Robert McRae III and
Izaiah Robinson — scoring their first collegiate points. The Big Green has never had as many players score in a single game, and only twice in the previous 63 seasons (1982-83 and 2015-16) had 17 players scored — or even played) — over an entire season.
Scouting the Perimeter
Dartmouth dropped 14 3-pointers in the 114-74 win over NVU-Lyndon, giving the Green 30 triples in the past two games (the most in a two-game span is 37 from the 2018-19 season).
Brendan Barry was perfect from behind the arc, going 5-for-5, leading eight players that hit at least one trey (one shy of an NCAA record that Dartmouth shares). With his fourth long ball, Barry reached 200 for his career between both Dartmouth and Temple. He is the fifth-most accurate 3-point shooter among active Division I players (.448).
Quick Stings vs. the Hornets
• Dartmouth's 114 points against NVU-Lyndon are the second most in program history, as were the 46 field goals (121 points and 50 FG vs. Pine Manor on Jan. 16, 2016).
• The Big Green hit exactly 23 field goals, seven 3-pointers and four free throws in each half.
• Freshman
Romeo Myrthil hit all three of his shots and has yet to miss as a college player (5-of-5 overall and 2-of-2 on threes).
• Both
Cam Krystkowiak and
Izaiah Robinson scored in double figures for the first time in their careers with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
• Dartmouth held a double-digit lead after 2:37 had elapsed and led by at least 10 for the rest of the game.
