NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Dartmouth men's ice hockey team returned to ECAC Hockey action on Friday evening, falling to Yale, 3-2, in overtime at Ingalls Rink.
The Big Green are now 2-7 this season, with a 2-4 ECAC Hockey record.
Dartmouth took the lead midway through the first period. The Big Green went on the power play after a slashing penalty from Graham Lillibridge. Freshman
Ian Pierce had the puck at the blue line, played it to the left side to sophomore
Joey Musa, who then played it across the ice to freshman
Matt Hubbarde. Hubbarde controlled the puck and fired it past Yale goaltender Nathan Reid for his second goal of the season.
Yale tied the game at 1-1 roughly seven minutes into the frame as Herzog shot it through the Dartmouth defense for his first goal of the season. However, the Big Green answered right off the faceoff as freshman
Sean Chisholm charged towards the goal and got a shot off. The shot was saved but the rebound fell right into freshman
Braiden Dorfman's path who buried it into the back of the net for his first career goal and to take back the lead.
Play was even through the early portion of the third period. The Bulldogs were given a momentum swing after the Big Green were called for several penalties. After a tripping call against senior
Jeff Losurdo, Yale capitalized 36 seconds later to tie the game at 2-2.
60 minutes was not enough for either team to find a winner, bringing on a five minute, 3v3, sudden death overtime period. Ian Carpentier was able to find the winner for the Bulldogs with 1:30 remaining.
Dartmouth is back in action tomorrow, as they take on Brown in their final ECAC Hockey contest of 2021. The game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
