MANCHESTER, N.H. – Playing for the second time in 2021, the Dartmouth men's lacrosse team defeated Saint Anselm, 20-6, in a scrimmage at Grappone Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Hawks – which are Division II and compete in the Northeast-10 Conference – were unbeaten, entering the scrimmage with a 10-0 record. They head to the NE10 Championship this weekend.
Twelve players ended up with at least one point. Senior
George Prince and freshman
Peter Lapina led the way with seven points; Prince had six goals and one assist, while Lapina had four goals and three helpers. All three goalies got experience in net: junior
Daniel Hincks had the win with seven saves, freshman
Hunter Binney had four and junior
Jack Schifino had one. At the X, sophomore
TJ Bryan went 15-for-28 and was first with nine ground balls.
The Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the first quarter, but goals by Lapina, freshman
Ben DiGiovanni and Prince put the Big Green up by one heading to the second (3-2)
After a low-scoring first quarter with a combined five goals being scored, the next one was a lot more eventful with twice as many tallies, seven of which were netted by Dartmouth. Prince and Lapina proved to be very important during the second quarter, scoring five of those goals. After 30 minutes of play, the Big Green sported a 10-5 advantage.
Saint Anselm kicked off scoring early in the second half, but that turned out to be its last tally of the game. A pair by Prince – both of which were assisted by Lapina – put more distance between the teams less than five minutes into the third (12-6). Dartmouth didn't stop there though; by the end of the quarter, senior
Matt Paul, Lapina and freshman
Henry Bonnie had found the back of the net to make it a 15-6 game.
The score remained the same until 9:32 of the fourth, when freshman
Michael Mauricio got in on the action to give the visitors a 10-goal lead. The Big Green netted four more tallies in the final four minutes courtesy of freshman
Nate Davis (x2), and seniors
Westy McLaughlin and
Kellen Paradine (20-6).
