HANOVER, N.H. – Courtney Jaworski, the Dartmouth women's cross country head coach and associate head coach of women's track & field, has announced that he will be leaving Dartmouth to assume the director position with Smith College.
Â
Jaworski took over the women's distance program in 2014 and immediately proved to be the perfect hire, leading Dartmouth to the Women's Cross Country Ivy League Heptagonal Championship in his first season. For his efforts in helping the Big Green to their second straight league crown, he was tabbed as the Ivy League's Coach of the Year.
Â
During his time in the Upper Valley, Jaworski worked with several top-tier talents, including All-American Dana Giordano '16 and All-Northeast Region Performer Helen Schlachtenhaufen '17, both of whom competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials this past weekend and combined to post four top-10 Ivy League all-time performances in multiple disciplines.
Â
Jaworski also guided the cross country team to three NCAA Championship appearances in 2014, 2017 and 2018. In total, Jaworski coached three All-Americans, 12 First Team and 11 Second Team All-Ivy League performers, 12 cross country all-region honorees and 26 NCAA Qualifiers.
Â
"It's been an amazing honor working at Dartmouth alongside an incredible track & field and cross-country staff, driven student-athletes, selfless support personnel and a focused administration," Jaworski said. "Director
Porscha Dobson has realistic and achievable goals for the track & field and cross country programs and I wish all involved nothing but success at the Ivy League and national levels."
Â
Jaworski's last day with the Big Green is June 30 before he begins his second stint with Smith, where he was an assistant from 2011-13. While there, he will be reunited with longtime coach and Dartmouth alumna Ellen O'Neil '87, the former head coach of Dartmouth women's cross country and assistant track & field coach from 1992-2003.
Â
A national search will begin immediately to fill his position.
