WASHINGTON, D.C. – Dartmouth fought to a tie with No. 8 Georgetown on Thursday evening. The Big Green remain unbeaten through three games with a 2-0-1 record. Junior goalkeeper
Charlotte Cyr saved nine out of ten shots in a stout performance.
Junior forward
Allie Winstanley scored the lone goal and has scored or assisted every Dartmouth goal this season.
For the third time in as many games, Dartmouth was tied 0-0 through the first 45 minutes of play. Georgetown (2-0-2) kept the Big Green on its heels through one half. Dartmouth was outshot 6-1 and junior goalkeeper
Charlotte Cyr kept the team in the game and made three saves against a formidable Hoya attack.
The Big Green broke through early in the second half. In the 59th minute, Winstanley received a pass from senior midfielder
Maddie Mills and fired a shot into the top right corner that bounced off the crossbar and into the goal.
The Hoyas answered just 10 minutes later. They played the ball into the Big Green box and slotted the ball into the bottom right corner past Cyr. It was the only shot she was unable to save all game. Neither team was able to break through again before the 90th minute and the game went into overtime.
Action picked up in the final two minutes of the first overtime period. Georgetown was awarded a penalty kick after a Dartmouth handball. Head coach
Ron Rainey expressed his outrage at the call and received a red card. Just seconds later the Hoyas' penalty kick went off the post and the Big Green remained tied 1-1.
The second overtime period did not live up to the first. Neither team earned a significant scoring opportunity and after 110 minutes the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Dartmouth returns to action on Sunday when they travel to George Mason for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Patriots.
