The Dartmouth men's ice hockey team plays their first game of 2022 on Sunday when they travel to Hamden, Connecticut to take on second-ranked Quinnipiac in ECAC Hockey action.
HOMECOMING FOR CASHMAN
Koenig Family Head Coach of Dartmouth Men's Hockey
Reid Cashman returns to his alma mater for the first time as a head coach. Cashman was a three-time All-American, two-time captain, and a Hobey Baker Top-10 Finalist during his playing career with the Bobcats. Additionally, Cashman spent five years behind the bench for Quinnipiac, three as an assistant coach and two as associate head coach. He helped the Bobcats to two Frozen Fours, including finishing as the national finalist in 2013 and 2016.
LOOKING BACK AT THE LEDYARD CLASSIC
- Dartmouth played against in-state rival UNH in their opening contest of the Ledyard Classic, winning 3-1.
- Sophomore Josh Waters scored the first two goals of his collegiate career in the win, including the first successful penalty shot for the Big Green since January 24, 2015. Freshman Braiden Dorfman scored a late empty net goal to secure the win. Sophomore Clay Stevenson finished with a career-high 40 saves.
- Dartmouth fell to Boston College, 6-1, in the championship game the following evening. Freshman Sean Chisholm scored the lone goal for the Big Green.
- Waters was selected to the All-Tournament team.
THE BIG GREEN STATS
- Gallant leads the team in scoring with six goals this season. Senior Jeff Losurdo, sophomores Joey Musa and Josh Waters, and freshmen Matt Hubbarde, Ian Pierce, Braiden Dorfman, and Sean Chisholm each have two goals.
- Chisholm has a team-leading six assists so far this season. Junior Tanner Palocsik and Losurdo have five assists while senior Harrison Markell and Musa have four.
- Chisholm leads the team in points with eight this season, while Losurdo and Gallant have seven apiece.
- The Big Green have utilized two goaltenders this season, Stevenson and senior Justin Ferguson. Stevenson has played in eight games, making 223 saves for a save percentage of .914. Ferguson has appeared in seven games, recording 148 saves with a save percentage of .855.
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
- Quinnipiac enters the weekend with a 14-1-3 overall record and a 5-0-1 ECAC Hockey record, and are currently on a 13-game undefeated run. They will play #18 Harvard on Friday evening.
- The Bobcats were ranked second in the latest USCHO poll.
- Quinnipiac played non-conference foe LIU in the previous contest, taking that one by a score of 5-0.
- Wyatt Bongiovanni and Ty Smilanic lead the Bobcats in scoring with eight goals each. Oliver Chau and Ethan de Jong are right behind with seven goals.
- Zach Metsa leads the team with a league-leading 16 assists. Chau has 11 assists while de Jong has 10.
- Metsa and Chau are tied for the team-lead in points with 18.
- Yaniv Perets has played the majority of minutes in goal for the Bobcats, accumulating 689 minutes played while making 168 saves with a save percentage of .944. Dylan St. Cyr has played 402 minutes between the pipes for Quinnipiac, making 105 saves with a save percentage of .913.
HISTORY AGAINST THE BOBCATS
- Dartmouth has a 10-22-3 record against Quinnipiac dating back to the 2004-05 season.
- The Bobcats took the win in the previous matchup, 5-1, back on January 4, 2020, down in Hamden.
