HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's hockey team tied Clarkson, 5-5, on Friday evening in ECAC Hockey action at Thompson Arena. The Golden Knights won the shootout, 1-0, to take the extra point in the standings.
The Big Green go to 3-10-2, 2-6-1 on the season. Clarkson moves to 11-7-5, 6-2-3.
Freshman
Sean Chisholm scored for the third consecutive game, while senior goaltender
Justin Ferguson saved a career-high 40 shots.
Junior
Tyler Campbell opened the scoring inside the opening five minutes of the game. Sophomore
Ryan Sorkin forced a turnover down in the corner and found Campbell. Campbell cut to the middle and fired one into the net for his first goal of the season.
Clarkson tied things up midway through the first period as Anthony Romano played the puck across the face of goal to Ayrton Martino for the tap-in.
The second period was filled with goals, six as a matter of fact.
Dartmouth regained the lead shortly into the period after taking advantage of a 5v3 power play opportunity. Junior
Mark Gallant played the puck to junior
Tanner Palocsik, who then set it up perfectly to freshman
Braiden Dorfman for the first-time finish for his third goal of the season.
The Golden Knights scored a short-handed goal midway through the second frame to tie the game at 2-2. The Big Green responded immediately to retake the lead. Sophomore
Joey Musa fired a shot towards goal, and it was redirected by freshman
Matt Hubbarde for his third goal of the season.
Clarkson tied it up again just a minute later. Senior goaltender
Justin Ferguson made the initial save on Romano's shot, but the loose puck fell right to Mathieu Gosselin, who controlled the puck and made a move to put it past Ferguson.
Dartmouth took the lead again after Chisholm was able to control a bouncing pass from Sorkin and bury it past Clarkson goaltender Ethan Haider for his third goal in as many games. Junior
Jack Cameron played a long pass to Sorkin, who hit it first time into the path of the sprinting Chisholm. Chisholm finished it off to give the Big Green a 4-3 lead.
Clarkson tied the game for the fourth time with just under 20 seconds remaining in the second period as Tommy Pasanen fired it into the net.
The Golden Knights took their first lead of the night with six minutes remaining in the third period when Nick Campoli redirected a shot from Lukas Kaelble.
Looking for the game-tying goal, Dartmouth pulled Ferguson with two and a half minutes left to gain the extra attacker. The Big Green took advantage and senior
Jeff Losurdo pounced on a loose puck around the goal to tie the game with his third of the season.
Neither team could find a winner in the final two minutes, forcing a five minute, 3v3 sudden death overtime. Both teams could not find the winner. The game goes down as a tie in the record books. However, a shootout ensued as either team could pick up an extra point in the standings.
Clarkson's Zach Tsekos made the lone successful shootout attempt to give Clarkson the extra point.
Dartmouth will be back in action tomorrow evening as they host St. Lawrence. That game will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
