A back-and-forth second quarter saw four combined goals, two from each side

DURHAM, N.H. – The Dartmouth field hockey team twice pulled even in the second quarter, but New Hampshire scored with 33 seconds left in the first half and added two insurance goals in the second, as the Big Green fell 5-2 on Sunday. Both Big Green goals were scored off penalty corners, as Bronwyn Bird and Myah Pease netted their second and fourth goals of the season, respectively. Florentina Terra added two defensive saves, while Lauren Devletian had one and goalkeeper Hatley Post finished with seven stops on the afternoon.

"This weekend hasn't quite gone according to plan, but there were some positives in today's play and some things that we need to continue to clean up on," said Dartmouth head coach Mark Egner. "All in all, credit to UNH. They really executed in their attacking end and again, did the things they thought we were going to do. They just did them very well."

UNH opened the scoring at the 11:32 mark, as Terra made her first defensive save of the game to prevent a goal, but Tasmin Cookman collected and put home the rebound.

Just 4:48 into the second quarter, the Big Green pulled even. On their third penalty corner of the game, Bird finished off an impressive shot to make the score 1-1.

It only took 37 seconds for UNH to retake the 2-1 lead. Dartmouth again would respond, however, scoring four minutes after that. This time, the Big Green converted another corner, with Pease scoring her team-leading fourth of the season.

UNH scored a big goal in the final minute of the first half to retake the lead, 3-2, heading into halftime. The Wildcats then scored 2:02 into the third quarter – making it two goals in 2:35 of game action – to take a 4-2 advantage, and the Big Green couldn't recover.

New Hampshire opened a 5-2 lead midway through the fourth. Dartmouth had three penalty corners, one of which led to a glittering scoring chance from Bird, but goalkeeper Jemma Woods turned the chance aside.

Final shots were 20-7 in favor of UNH, with penalty corners 7-4 in Dartmouth's favor.

"Bronwyn and Myah both executed their corners quite well," said Eggner. "That's been a point of attention for us this week, trying to clear up and make sure we get success on both sides of the corner game. I think our DPC (defensive penalty corner) unit did a good job too making some changes this week that definitely helped us."

The Big Green return to the field on Saturday when they travel to No. Princeton for a 12 p.m. showdown with the No. 9 Tigers.
