HANOVER, N.H. — Sarah Young has been selected to represent the Dartmouth sailing program at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) 2022 Fall National Championships. Young will compete in the women's singlehanded national championships for the Janet Lutz Trophy in Norfolk, Virginia on November 5-6.
Selected by the women's singlehanded selection committee, Young is one of 13 at-large selections competing at the event. They will be joined by five conference champions who earned automatic bids.
"We are thrilled to return to the Women's Singlehanded National Championship," head coach
Justin Assad said. "Sarah has been working hard this fall to prepare, and we are excited to see her hard work pay off in Norfolk in November!"
Young is one of five Ivy League student-athletes selected to compete at the regatta. Sophia Montgomery of Harvard earned an automatic bid as the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) champion, while Katharine Doble (Brown), Kaitlyn Hamilton (Brown) and Lauren Ehnot (Cornell) each earned at-large bids.
Earlier in the fall, Young competed at the NEISA Women's Singlehanded Championship regatta. The sophomore earned a fourth-place finish at the event in a field of 10. She will look to improve on her performance at the conference championship event on the national stage.
Last season, Young became the first Dartmouth student-athlete to compete at the women's singlehanded national championships since 2005. She finished 12th in a field of 18 athletes at the 2021 installment of the regatta, which was hosted by Navy.
Young will represent the Big Green at the ICSA 2022 Fall Women's Singlehanded National Championship regatta on November 5-6. The event will be hosted by Old Dominion.
