Big Green post strong finishes against some of the nation’s best crews

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Dartmouth men's heavyweight rowing team enjoyed an impressive opening regatta of the season this weekend as the Big Green finished near the top of their races at the 57th Head of the Charles Regatta. Dartmouth had two entries in the Men's Club Eights on Saturday and two in the Championship Eights on Sunday, all posting strong finishes against an elite field of entries.

On Saturday, the Big Green saw their A entry (their Third Varsity Eight) finish fifth out of 39 crews with a time of 14:36.716. The B entry (their Fourth Varsity Eight) came in ninth with a time of 14:50.993. Both were within striking distance of Harvard, who won the race with a time of 14:20.881.

On Sunday, Dartmouth's A entry (its First Varsity Eight) finished ninth out of 25 crews with a time of 13:45.806. The Big Green were the seventh collegiate crew to finish, while Dartmouth's B entry (its Second Varsity Eight) came in 15th overall with a time of 14:02.953. The Big Green also featured the third 2V crew to finish, only behind Harvard and Yale.

"The Charles gives us an opportunity, very early in the year, to see how we stack up against many of the best programs in the country," said head coach Wyatt Allen. "We certainly have work to do and speed to find, but overall, it was a solid weekend for the group."

The Big Green return to the water at home with their annual Class Day event, the Gardner Cup, on Saturday, Nov. 5.
