CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Dartmouth women's rowing team wrapped up its weekend at the 57th Head of the Charles on Sunday by competing in the Championship Fours and Championship Eights, finishing 11th and 26th overall. The championship races featured the top Division I collegiate women's boats, and national team boats from the United States and abroad.
"Each boat came off the water feeling like they executed their race plans well and were as strong as they could be today," said head coach
Nancy LaRocque. "While we were hoping to place higher, we know what we need to work on to prepare for a solid spring season."
Dartmouth's Championship Four was its Varsity Four, and the Big Green came in 11th out of 14 crews. The time of 18:28.864 was ahead of Temple, among other schools, and within 45 seconds of Penn, Columbia and Princeton.
Meanwhile, the Big Green's Varsity Eight competed in the Championship Eights, as the crew finished with a time of 16:23.143, good for 26th. It was one spot ahead of Cornell, and ahead of Navy and Temple. Dartmouth was just over a minute behind first place and within 45 seconds of the top 10.
The Big Green return to the water at home with their annual Class Day event, the Gardner Cup, on Saturday, Nov. 5.
"We are in a great place as a program culturally, with an exceptional senior class leading the charge," said LaRocque. "The bulk of our training for the spring season is still ahead of us, and they are ready for what's ahead."
