CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team fell to #14 Harvard, 5-2, in their season opener in ECAC Hockey and Ivy League action on Friday evening at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center.

Dartmouth drops to 0-1-0, 0-1-0 while Harvard improves to 1-0-0, 1-0-0.

Matt Hubbarde and
Trym Løkkeberg as each scored a goal for the Big Green.
Ryan Sorkin,
Steven Townley and
Tyler Campbell all chipped in an assist.
Cooper Black finished with 42 saves in his first collegiate start.

Alex Laferriere led the way for the Crimson with two goals and two assists. Jack Bar, Matthew Coronato and Zakary Karpa each had one goal.

The Big Green wasted no time taking the lead over the Crimson. Dartmouth forced a turnover down near their own net with
Steven Townley pouncing on the loose puck. Townley laid it off back toward the middle for Hubbarde to fire it into the back of the net to give the Big Green a 1-0 lead just 51 seconds into the game.

Dartmouth extended the lead five minutes later.
Tyler Campbell centered the puck for
Ryan Sorkin, but his initial shot was saved. Løkkeberg followed up on the rebound and had the opening to smash it from right in front of goal for his first career goal.

Black made eight saves in the opening period as the Big Green took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

Harvard grabbed their first goal of the night with 12 minutes remaining in the second period. Thrun's initial shot deflected and fell to Laferriere to sneak it past Black to cut into the deficit. The Crimson tied it up with a short-handed with just under eight minutes to go in the period. Laferriere had the puck on a 2v1 and slipped it across to Bar for the tap-in to tie the game.

The Crimson took the lead early in the third period. After gaining possession of the puck, Laferriere brought it down towards goal himself and was able to get one past Black for his second of the night to give Harvard the 3-2 lead. Harvard added to the lead midway through the third period with a power play goal. Sean Farrell's initial shot was saved but the rebound was loose, and Coronato poked it in.

Dartmouth pulled Black late in the third period as it looked to cut into the deficit. Harvard took advantage and scored an empty net goal.

Dartmouth is back in action on Sunday afternoon with its non-conference opener at Army West Point. The game will be available to stream on FloHockey.
