It was back and forth in the early going as both teams had several chances to take the lead. The Black Knights found the breakthrough nearly eight minutes into the opening period. After gaining possession deep in their zone and moving the puck up the ice, Reese Farrell played it across the middle to Sacco, who tucked it inside the near post past Black to put Army up 1-0. The Black Knights added to their lead later in the period with a power play goal from Firriolo.
Â
The Big Green came out of the first intermission and scored within the first 30 seconds of the second period. Flinton had two shots from close range that were saved but the third time's the charm as he was able to get a third shot off, this one going into the back of the net for his first career goal to cut into the deficit.
Â
Army responded with six goals, including a short-handed goal, in the second period to take an 8-1 lead into the third. The Black Knights had six players score in the period.
Â
The Big Green tallied two goals late in the third period. Dorfman played the puck out to MacDonald on the right side, MacDonald took puck towards goal before laying it back for Pierce. Pierce, just a few feet from goal, made no mistake and fired it home for his first of the season. Dartmouth added another goal just two minutes later. Flinton found Haymes behind the net, and Haymes brought it around front and calmly wrapped it around Abric for his first career goal.
Â
The Big Green held the edge in shots on goal, 40-29.
