HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team defeated Yale, 6-0, on Friday evening in ECAC Hockey and Ivy League action at Thompson Arena.
Dartmouth improves to 1-2-0, 1-1-0 while Yale drops to 1-2-0, 1-2-0.
Luke Haymes scored twice for the Big Green while
Ian Pierce,
Braiden Dorfman,
Trym Løkkeberg and
Joey Musa each scored one.
Tanner Palocsik,
Matt Hubbarde and
Nick Unruh each dished out two assists.
Cooper Black made 28 saves to claim his first collegiate win and shutout.
After an even first period, the action took off in the second as the Big Green scored three goals. Dartmouth scored their first of the night inside the opening three minutes of the second frame. After Palocsik poked the puck away from Yale,
Tyler Campbell immediately passed it down the middle to Haymes. Haymes maneuvered his way around Yale goaltender Connor Hopkins to slot it home to give the Big Green a 1-0 lead.
Dartmouth added to their lead six minutes later when Pierce fired a shot past Hopkins for his second goal of the season. It took the Big Green just 40 seconds to score their third of the game.
John Fusco took a shot towards goal that was initially saved. The rebound was loose around the front of goal, and it was Dorfman who took advantage, getting his stick in there to knock the puck into the back of the net.
The scoring did not stop there as Dartmouth added another three goals in the third period. Similar to the second period, the Big Green scored early, this time just two minutes into the period. Coming down the right side, Hubbarde played the puck across the front of goal and Musa made the full effort to get on the end of it, smashing it into the net for his first goal of the season.
Midway through the period,
Steven Townley ripped a shot towards a goal that was saved by Hopkins. The puck floated in the air and rather than waiting for it to come down, Løkkeberg hit it out of the air into the net for his second of the year.
The Big Green capped the scoring in the final moments with their first power play goal of the season. Pierce shot it towards goal and took what looked to be off a deflection off of Haymes, causing just enough misdirection to go past Hopkins to make it six for the night in favor of the hosts.
Dartmouth is back in action tomorrow evening at Thompson Arena for an ECAC Hockey and Ivy League matchup against Brown. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the game will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
Notes: Haymes and Pierce both scored for the second straight game… 13 different players recorded a point.
