HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team played to a 2-2 tie against Brown in ECAC Hockey and Ivy League action on Saturday evening at Thompson Arena. The Big Green won the shootout, 1-0, to claim the extra point in the standings.
Dartmouth moves to 1-2-1, 1-1-1 while Brown now sits at 1-2-1, 1-2-1.
Luke Haymes and
Braiden Dorfman both scored power play goals for the Big Green.
John Fusco,
Cooper Flinton,
Tanner Palocsik and
Joey Musa each had assists.
Cooper Black made 19 saves in net. Musa scored the lone goal in the shootout.
Bradley Cocca scored one goal and assisted another while James Crossman scored once. Mathieu Caron made 34 saves in goal for the Bears.
Brown took the lead three and a half minutes into the game when Crossman scored on the power play. The Big Green tied the game late in the opening period with their first power play goal of the night. Fusco, from the point, played the puck to left side to Haymes. Haymes fired a shot through traffic and into the net for his fourth of the season.
The Bears took the lead back inside the first two minutes of the third period. Matt Sutton played the puck down the boards into the Dartmouth defensive zone. Cole Quisenberry managed to pass the puck towards the middle to an open Cocca, who fired a shot to the right side of the net for the 2-1 lead.
The Big Green took advantage of another power play late in the third period to tie the game. Palocsik played a perfect to pass Dorfman on the left side. Dorfman hit the first-time shot with precision to beat Caron on the near post, making it two goals in two games for the sophomore.
Regulation finished 2-2, bringing on the 3v3 overtime. Dartmouth had the advantage during the extra period as Brown picked up a two-minute penalty, but the Big Green were unable to find the winner.
In the shootout, neither team scored in the opening two rounds of the best of three. Up steps Musa, who calmly scooped and lifted the puck past Caron to put Dartmouth in front. Black was positioned well on the final attempt from the Bears as Matt Sutton's shot steered wide, giving the Big Green the shootout wins and the crucial extra point in the standings.
Dartmouth heads out to New York next weekend for ECAC Hockey matchups with Union and Rensselaer. Both games will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
